fireman 10,975 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Share Posted November 20, 2012 The rarity of them and the fact there different is what makes them worth more,the colour mutations breed the same as every thing else so there not harder to breed as it were but it's just the time and effort in producing them in the first place that has set the price,a lot of line breeding and i'm sure a few sad moments go into catching the mutation and then producing it regular and i'd say thats why they cost so much,To be honest i have some colour mutations redpolls and greenies but imo you just cannot beat a natural coloured bird,look at the cock Bullfinch,a belter of a bird with colour on him to die for and folks pay a grand for a white one when a normal will cost you £40 but at the end of the day it's up to the person who wants one and what they will pay for one. My wife paid £50 for a stamp in the 's i near left her over it. It could have fed us for a month back then. She must have knew something i obviously didn't, 6k she sold it for last year.
