SCRAMBLE Aye the components are becoming obsolete and getting harder to acquire so the guys that repair mk1 boxes are buying broken ones to get the parts Quote Link to post
ferretfatcamp 21
prefer the mark 3 you leave the batteries in and less interfearance near electric wires Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
The mark 1 every day of the week, and i would pay a decent price for a new one as well. Also you can leave the batteries in the mk1 8ft collars screwed up taped up, good quality one's will last the best part of 3 months. 1 Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Is that it with this topic? Someone at least say they are going to make a new mk 1! 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,468
If anybody was making a new mk1 ferret locator using new electronic capacitors i reckon there would be less interference as the new ones would surely be better than those produced in the seventy's Quote Link to post
PETEWINN 5
Would definitely be interested in a new Mk1 finder. The price second hand ones sell for on EBay I'm sure people would paid £75 for a new one. People blame the parts not being available but there must be modern equivalents around as it's only a few capacitors, resistors, transistors, potentiometers, cmos chips and an aerial. jambay5 191
have had both did not get on with the mk3 at all, mk1 all the way Quote Link to post
theferreter 311
i use both but prefer the mk3m Quote Link to post
trigger2 3,137
mark 1 is a good locator and the depth is spot on. ive dug to a few with the mark 3s and the depth isnt what it says on the box luckily for me its always been less. Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Mk1 might be OK for the lads with shallower places to ferret but doing hedges and deep warrens the range of the MK3 is very useful even if just to resure you that the ferret's where abouts. Deben will never remake a MK1 box, its simply not good business to do so if you think about it commercially, and IMO if the MK3m collars were better and more reliable it makes a far more useful piece of kit than the old grey knocker box Mk1. Halfinch 51
No way! I think its only Nostalgia that makes the Mk1 so popular amongst the "old" fellas, A bit like people saying " You can't beat the old British Motorbikes" Err, Actually you can, on almost every level, but i digress. I've used the Mk1, and to be fair its ok, and does the Job, but So does the Mk3 and too a greater depth. I personally find the Mk3 easier to use too, Although that is probably because i learn't to use it before i used a Mk1 I'm not slateing the Mk1's, It's just that Modern Technology has moved on and the Mk3 is a perfectly good and capable finder, Can someone tell me what advantages the Mk1 would have over the Mk3? Because i couldn't find any. Quote Link to post

cameron_d96 0
I've used both and mk3 is so much more complicated. Mk1 is all I use now Quote Link to post
Tug 168
I've used both and mk3 is so much more complicated. Mk1 is all I use now Complicated? Once you've mastered it, try opening a packet of biscuits for a real challenge. 1 Quote Link to post
