fitchet 788
Just thought id share today took my young saluki cross out ferreting for the first time today. First of all we walked the fields through but nothing to be seen so let him off near a small wood straight away saw his body language change as soon as he came to a five holer. not the best place for a young dogs first bolted rabbit but wanted to honour the mark so put him on the slip and put the little white jill. Even with all the rumbling just stayed still and calm. To cut a long story short he missed the first few i bolted for him. But the main thing is he marked very well on a few warrens and the one he did catch was brought live to hand. Still has a few things to work on but has showed some real potential. Its_grim_up_norf 577
Just to ask a similar question to Craig, how old is the dog? Sounds promising if it was the first outing too. At what age did you start training him also? I've been getting tips from a lad at work who has a saluki on starting them off with a tennis ball. On a night too on the lamp get them used to running to the end of the beam throwing the ball down the beam for him. I know you can get lures etc but in your experience how did the dog start off. Cheers. Quote Link to post
