Waz 4,266
worked away for years it causes grief on your family life they think [missus]that your up to no good all the time enloying your self to much when in reality half the time your sitting i a bed sit looking at 4 walls wishing you were home instead ov hearing the same shit story over again of a work mate while trying to get your head down 9 out of 10 lads Ive worked away with were up to no good! Was even greater craic when the bosses tagged along as they had the firms credit cards, although I was always a good boy
Nik_B 3,790
Aye the middle east was mental and full of far eastern hookers. But its hard to be mr sensible when you spend more time away from home than at home. I used to come home and feel like a stranger in my own house, impossible to have a social life etc.

04fox8 168
Worked Offshore for last 20 odd years, Had a few years in the office, but had NO time with 1st youngster, She was still sleeping when I set out in a morning, and in her bed by the time I got home. Got a 28/28 rotation in Africa 5/6 years ago, and actually got home from 1st trip on her 1st birthday (un announced) and that was good. Now she's at school, and I don't see so much of her when I'm home. Youngest is off to school next year, so neither of them will be here through the day. Skype is good, but sometimes it does make you feel worse, and usually, the nights you do want to see / speak to them, the internet is down, or they are busy or out at something! The month at home is Good, but it can be a long long month when away. VISA expired just now tho, so got home yesterday a few weeks early! It's a tough choice, We don't have any luxuries, and by no means live it up, but often wonder how we'd manage without the extra money! They are only young once, but as has been said earlier, we do it to provide for them. If you get time off when you get home, it can be good, Not restricted to doing the 'family' things at busy times like weekends or only on the school holidays, places quieter, maybe a few days away, 'off peak' - Cheaper deals to be had. No sitting in queues of traffic, scraping windows on frosty mornings etc. My 2 have never known any different, but now they want me to come home to work.............................so they can get a dog!
