Matt3699 142
It's been a slow start for me. Moving all around Europe has left me with very few contacts in the UK. This proved to make finding some good permission the impossible task. I found that everything is tied up and farmers are reluctant to give out new permission in fear of upsetting the guys working the land. I was in Ireland for 4 years where I hunted day and night. Then I moved to Spain and my dog struggled to adjust to the climate and steep mountains. I caught 1 Jack rabbit in the 4 years of living in Spain. I moved back to the UK a couple of years ago and finally got a new Lurcher last year. I have done plenty of mooching with her and shown her the lamp a few times, other than that she hasn't had a lot of work and at 16-17 months without her first kill I began to worry that it would never happen. Persistence paid off and I Finally got some good permission. I planned my dogs first proper night out on the lamp with a friends dog and off we went. My Bitch soon got her first run and after turning like a bus a few times and some very close calls she lost it at the ditch. I was gutted, she was very close, but it was her first decent run on the lamp, so we pushed on. She soon got a second run, turned it much better this time, after getting it to the ditch she caught it. No retrieve and she is definitely hard mouthed... but that is something we can work on. Conditions weren't great and the land was extremely wet. My friends dog went on to catch another and we saw a Red Deer, 2 Foxes and no end of Hares. But we obviously only stuck to the legal. Overall it was a good first night and looking forward to many more! Always a great feeling after the first catch! 1/1 isn't too bad for a first night out. Quote Link to post

Matt3699 142
Good luck mate. Keep the sessions short. Couple of runs. Finish on a high. I took your advice. It was foggy last night so was only out for around 20 mins. I got 2 runs and she got both of them! 2/2 this time. Very pleased with her. Quote Link to post
