Coat on pups?

Lads how old would you expect to see a pup that was going to end up rough or broken coated to show any coat?

14 days and no coat as yet, dam is my own bitch who is rough coated and although the sire was a whippet I thought the bitchs genes would have been more dominant. There are wooly dogs throughout my bitchs line and I thought the pups would be showing some sign of coat by now, but they all look smooth.

pups coats can change as they get older, normaly around 8-12 weeks you can tell if there going to be smooth or broken coated.

I've had lurchers stay smooth until over 6 months old. My Deer/Grey was still smooth, though slightly wavy, at a year old: by 19 months she was properly rough coated. Another was smooth until around 8 months, then went very rough coated. Generally, the woolly type coat shows earlier than the more wiry rough coat, but it is never set in stone in my experience.

Thanks Penny and sowhat that has put my mind at ease. Hopefully, by the time they are ready to leave they will be showing some coat.

 

Mine all look like your Milly sowhat, and they are only just 2 weeks so plenty of time yet.

I've got a pup here at 5 month old out of 2 rough dogs and all he has is a thick coat, i hope that he's like yours skycat as i was hoping for a broken coat....
