Just starting out......

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was into rabbiting in a big way in a younger life with my dad. Just recently had a Whippet and a couple of ferrets, im trying to get my whippet game for shes 6month old but struggling as i presume the best way for her to learn is watch others which is hard for me as know one i know is in the same hobby. Any ideas? please.

Too young yet mate but you have all the tools you need in your ferrets. Put the nets down without the pegs secured. Hold the dog, wait till one bolts and let the dog retrieve it. You need to wait till its about 9 months though if you don't want to waste it. Also only do it once or twice with the nets then don't use nets atall if you want a dog that only goes for escapees and not netted rabbits.

Hi,

Another just starting out here.

As others said, your dog is still very young. Mine chased at 6 months and was a bu**er for young blackbirds in the local park. He wouldn't have known what to do with a rabbit at that age though. His first bunny was a mixy, and he hasn't looked back - although he is by no means a trained dog.

It's a great journey for me and the mutt.
