Bound to ruffle some feathers but, I'd put a dog in a caring pet home before I'd let it go to some of the supposed good working homes that I know of.

we have a few none working lurchers/ greys near us .and most of their owners love em ,a couple have been picked up at rescue centres and some have been passed to them in one way or another . as most

pet dogs imo are beneficial for a kid.in fact i think every kid should have a dog.it teaches them to responsible towards something.also its probally the first time a child expierences bearevment in t

There is litter wastage in border collie litters as well vixen, same in show litters

many are easy to spot at a young age and those pups are sold to pet homes.

Your being melodramatic.

Having an opinion is not being melodramatic (i'm too old and wise for melodramatics :) )..........when breeding a litter for work be it lurcher, terrier, collie or whatever, there will be surplus puppies (as no one breeds a litter to keep them all) these surplus puppies are not wastage they deserve the same treatment and duty of care as the puppy being kept, i know straight away with any litter i have bred which pup i'm keeping BUT...........that doesn't warrant calling the rest of the litter wastage!! there are too many people breeding litters now that have no duty of care to a litter and treat their dogs in the same manner they would treat a broken tool in a toolbox.......i'll stick to treating my dogs and pups with the love and respect they deserve (even if some think that's melodramatic  ), i'll let all the young (big i ams) crack on with their wastage and culling programmes and be real big :good:

Why would anyone give a lifetime of work to a pet owner?? A dog bred from working lines isnt a pet and most likely an accident waiting to happen in the wrong hands, years of testing and working and breeding the very best to the very best and succeeding at the highest levels, Just to hand it over to some sap who will fill it full of pedegree scum, and walk it twice a day. Fook that.

Pets get passed from pillar to post, the rescues are full of pets of all breeds, So why add to that?

No MY OPINION IS THAT YOU ARE MELODRAMATIC regardless of your age that is irrelevant, trying to say that calling pups that will not make the grade out of a litter wastage is why joe public looks down on hunting lads is utter bullshit your just nitpicking the show fraternity are guilty of far worse. And going completely off topic in order to pretend your better than anyone else is another example of your drama queen nature, ffs most lads and ladys on this site put their all into rearing their pups and wont let anyone have one of their pups... You like to think your the only one your not your just a snob

Vixen, I can see what your saying, but some of the stuff you've said is abit silly, wastage refers to the amount of pups out of a litter that don't come up to the working standard, they can't all be world beaters, and I think you'll find that some people do breed and keep back whole litters,

i do know what wastage means when said, but being a "snob" i think it's callous the way some people treat and talk about their dogs............i dont know anyone who has kept a whole litter of lurchers or terriers unless there has just been two or three pups  .........................at the end of the day i would rather give my pups to a pet home than a lot of the so called working homes on here............. :)

I can see what your saying vixen but not everyone is very sentimental, and just because you haven't heard of it happening, doesn't mean it doesn't, some lads will run on whole litters.

Giving a pup to a pet home is nothing more than passing the buck, I like to take responsibility.

i have heard of and know people who have kept a litter of two or three pups but i've never heard of anyone keeping a litter of 4 - 12 pups their whole life
