Born Hunter 17,763
a mate of mine had one fitted that wasnt checked by a HETAS certified tradesman and he ended up in A&E and nearly died so think about who you get to fit them lads Did he have the full flu linning or just fit it to the already existing chimney? Was it large enough to require an air vent through an external wall for CO ventilation and did he have it done? it was fitted without a flu linning and it nearly killed him mate Yeah, thought as much. I'm deffinately going with the linner. They are safer and better for the chimney. A lot of people don't realise that because of the improved efficiency of the log burner compared to the original open fire the smoke and gases is a lot cooler and condense in the chimney unlike an open fire where it is much hotter and 99% leaves the chimney. This shits the chimney up badly with tar and shite. A linner restricts the chimneys volume not giving the smoke chance to condense. I'll buy a buggie though just in case
Malt 379
I can't be doing with paying someone to do it. I'm pretty confident I can do it myself. If I have to pay a fitter it's not happening at all I'm afraid. I just know that if you don't have them fitted by a registered fitter you are meant to get the building inspector in to give it the nod. I wonder if it is possible to get a qualified fitter in to check it over? some fitters do inspections, it's just a matter of which ones cheaper out of the fitter or the building inspector.. Do you know the regs? They're available online here and there, I'll dig them out if you can't find them.. I've got a folder of asorted advice and regs from various sites. I'd apreciate anything you may have malt. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADJ_2010.pdf

Strong Stuff 2,171
I wouldn't swap you now mate. I only had 2 years of messing with coal, wasting too much time finding and cutting logs and cleaning ........ That was enough! I'm loving pressing the button here and being too hot 15 minutes later, for a fraction of the cost of logs and coal. Yours looks pretty though. all the fecking fuss you made on here --posts about log burners, log splitters ,chain saws, log sleds ,log stores, best kind of logs , what matches to light it with --- and you gave it bollox wimp Reported for on line bullying (again! ) In case you hadn't guessed, I'm an obsessive, have to do everything to highest degree, had a mega fire grate, best logs, best smokeless fuel etc etc etc. Cost a bast@rd fortune and was a pain in the hoop to clean every day, stock fuel up etc, toooooooo much messing, might be ok for all you married oldies with wives to escape from, but I won't miss it at all!
