Guest baldie
Whippet, i,m sorry mate, i was a little harsh when i wrote that [beer last night], but trust me, i,m correct.Nowt wrong with going by the letter of the law, but ask your flo, next time, i guarantee he will give you the same answer as me. The police have changed their stance on the status of referee,s, the home office havent caught up yet. The police would much rather, anyone who knows you really well, and see,s you on a day to day basis, countersign your form [provided they dont have a record, and arent a family member] This is actually very good policing [ for once] as your lawyer, or doctor, may see you once a year, sometimes less, they dont know the slightest thing about you do they?Ive been told this myself by south yorkshire police, and heard countless people in the shop say they have been told the same thing, and these are applying for firearms, not shotguns, when you actually look at the home office list, it doesnt actually say "metal work teachers", does it buddy? you catch my drift? good luck mate. Guest whippet
If you've served over 3 months in prison you are banned from owning firearms (that includes shotguns) for 5 years, a sentence of over 3 years and you are banned for life. Although I suppose it couldn't hurt to have a chat with them and explain that you have been on the straight and narrow since then, and even if your application is refused you get your money back. Guest adrian
The exact wording: "A countersignatory must also be a Member of Parliament, Justice of the Peace, minister of religeon, doctor, lawyer, established civil servant, bank officer or someone of similar standing. Serving police officers, police employees and registered firearms dealers cannot act as countersignatories." Whether you're police force interprets this to allow anyone without a criminal record to countersign is another thing, but being as it was my first time I accepted the law, word for word. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> when i got my cert 2 years ago the local group scout leader did mine for me and he only drives a van for a living but is of GOOD standing in the comunity. Guest chilli
if my mem serves me correct didnt rob reynolds have a lot of shit with the police of a licence ? went to court an won ? Quote Link to post
Guest Dave
Cant be family that signs and does not have to be doc, lawyer etc (fairly new I beleive) in theory doc cant sign it if you pay for the certificate from him. You have to name your doctor and sign a medical diclosure cert so they have access to med record so will knoww if you have any mental health issues. Waiting for responses from your doc is all part of the reason it takes so long. Dave Quote Link to post

sauer 2
i know it shouldnt be the case but different areas seem to apply the rules slightly differently. as regards to mental health etc you now sign or tick a box on the application which gives the plod the right to access your doctors records to check for previous or ongoing health problems. Again rightly said you do not need ground to shoot ... knowledge of local clay shoots etc do help.... but IF you have ground it certainly helps... also wee tip i was given... when you fill in the application put in the relevant section regarding ground "" AND OR ANY OTHER OBTAINED GROUND OR INVATIONAL SHOOTING GROUND"" this will cover you for anything obtained after you get the application and if you say get an invite to shoot miles away from home not a requirement but helps a little like others have said have a chat with local firearms liason officer and go for it!!! Mine doesnt have anything about where i want to shoot. It does state A relative must not countersign and as whippet said about member of parliment etc. Although having said that i once signed for someone and they got their licience in the same area.
