marshman 7,758
@jawn. Like I said I've no problem with gifting a dog or even selling a dog in certain situations! But me personally would feel like I had sold a something that's taken me a long while to get. I suppose I'm just greedy lol Quote Link to post
jawn 449
No.... your probably smart. Half the time I wish I had one back after a young dog washes out of gets killed. No right way to do it in every situation I suppose. It can't be about the money because the only thing you ever get for the time you put into a good one is the pleasure of hunting with it. I'm not sure I could put a price on that. Easier to pass one like that on to a guy down the road that you can still hunt with from time to time. Quote Link to post
gonetoearth 5,144
This gets my goat, not proven cause thats been done to death on here over the years, but selling older dogs,Iam a dog man always have been always will be, why the thomas cook do you sell an older dog, if its worked for you ? the good times the bad times feck we have all had em, but sell it dont make fecking sense, if youve worked a dog for seven or eight years or two or three and its past it move it to the house, dont try your cock and bull that they wont take to it as your fooling no real dog man, only the fly by nights on here. You carn't keep two together bull shit, whos the boss you or the dog,it fecking pisses me off to see some of the shit posted on here as to why people sell so called proven dogs. any way rant over, dig deep and throw well back one of the best posts ive ever read on here Quote Link to post
jawn 449
With all due respect, If you buy a dog from a man you don't know without hunting the dog who's to blame if the dog turns out to be sht? A man's good name can mean more than the fact that he is selling or gifting a dog. I'd rather buy a good one, than be gifted a dog that won't do the job. Jm2c worth what you paid for it. 1 Quote Link to post

marshman 7,758
@gonetoearth. Like I said I wouldn't be doing it! but to play devils advocate sometimes it can be for the better. For example if the dog isn't getting the graft and is not being worked !! Then maybe a change of owner to someone that is going to give it the graft it needs is surely for the better. 3 Quote Link to post

Cleanspade 3,324
if you keep and work a good dog and it does its job for you there is no reason to part with it. except in extremely rare situations. i dont do an awfull lot of terrier work these days but the best i got out of my terriers was from around four years onward. finding they will only get better and better with work. without doubt the best lads ive met always have one or two old ens about the place. if they go that extra yard for you , you should go that extra yard for them this iis just my take on things. 1 Quote Link to post
gnasher16 30,531
Are we required to keep every dog until it dies of old age? Couldnt agree more..............if someone is only able to keep 2 working dogs then why spend possibly years not working dogs just to see out the life of 2 old dogs .........move them on and start again they are dogs not children. 4 Quote Link to post
