moley 115
if anyone puts up a post about shooting or snaring hares theres uproar from you die hard coursing lads , so why is it i see muppets walking the fields in summer (today) looking to course hares, leverets and preggy does ?, i hardly ever see running dog lads in the winter when hares should be run, do these so called "coursers" have no morals ? Ray Mears 272
simply because ther dogs aint good enough to catch a strong winter hare Quote Link to post
midnight walker 8
they might be bringing on a young dog other wise a waist of good winter sport Quote Link to post
bernie.g 0
there just playing at it Quote Link to post
Guest john2007oliver
they might be bringing on a young dog other wise a waist of good winter sport thats the only reason i would see fit reason to do it But can't expect others to do things by your own morals, otherwise no one would be running hares ever and we would all be members of the anti brigade. Guest WILF
You only have to look at half the posts on here to realise how many messers are about........running young foxes with 10 month old dogs ect ect..........seems Messerdom is bursting at the seams Quote Link to post
Guest MOLLY
Were these lads deliberately coursing? Just ive ran 2 hares this week, both purely by accident I dont have anywhere else to walk the dogs and i keep them leashed up or rested up from April till the lambs are big and the siliage is cut. But now i have to slowly start to get them back up to fitness, and that includes being off their leash, if a hare gets up in front of us i cant stop them, i can only train them to do so much and knowing the difference between a rabbit & hare is hard to do The good side is, we have never caught one and im getting them fit for the coursing lads come winter So if you had driven past me today you would have seen me and my lot making fools of ourselves and though we were deliberately coursing MOLL. Meerihunter 7
Maybe they just wanted one for the pot? I've been ask to run hares off the brussels and cabbage field in the past and it's a case of if you don't the farmer will only get someone to shoot them. We are in the same situation as Molly here I run rabbits all the year round on my permission I never lay up my dogs what are you to do? At least round here the crops are well up and the cover is really thick so they stand a good chance of getting away. Quote Link to post
shepp 2,285
I think the young dogs won't know a rabbit from a hare, so bring them on with rabbits! Quote Link to post
bernie.g 0
i think exersize your dogs elsewhere save the hares till they are ready to take the p*ss out the summer boys dogs Quote Link to post
snoopdog 1,256
iam glad you went first moll well for the people who know me on this site no i would never course a hares through the breeding season on purpose because there isnt a finer wild animal in this country jmo....but i have had the odd accident while being out in the counryside excising my dogs ...i try to stay away from the fields where i think they might be and i stay well away from the fields i know they are in but accidents do happen ...there i got that guilty feeling off my chest ... as for people actually going out looking for them at this time off year well they arnt coursing men moley so dont judge us true sportsman with the scum you saw today .... all the best snoop.... Guest MOLLY
Ok Bernie, if you can find somewhere for me under a 15mile radius, ill walk there...we dont even have paths to walk at the side of the roads here ffs They are vermin, more common here than spuggies in your garden, i wish to god they were not here, or it was rabbits instead. If your dog chases a rabbit, it either gets caught or goes to ground. If it chases a hare, it runs untill it loses it, be it 3 mins or 15mins, over roads or on other farms. Rest assured i dont want my dogs chasing hares for that length of time in summer heat. I cannot make any more noise than i already do to try to shift them on before i even get there. A pain in the backside i'd rather be without, but ill be damned if anyone thinks i should drive for umpteen miles to take my dogs for a walk, than in the fields directly outside of my home because of a bloody hare MOLL. The buildings at the back...the farm i live on. I even have to look in the farmyard before i let my dogs out for a quick wee in the yard as the hares for some reason like to come into it Quote Link to post
Guest bob
if youve got that many hares up there molly i think its only fare you should try and trap as many as you can and then drive down the m5 as far as you can and drop the feckers off :thumbs-up: they will be safe here Quote Link to post
