EBT crossed dogs

Gnasher I'm gonna have to say that I don't know enough of EBTs to know. I have only seen one EBT worked in my life so any opinion I had would be based on VERY few, if any facts. In a cross I am not looking for gameness in the BD sense of the word. I am not looking for a style per say. In fact I am of the opinion that the bulldog served well as an all purpose type of dog for a reason. My expectations of a cross are few, but my hopes are high as the bulldog in general has served many purposes. When I am looking for a catch dog, I don't go to a litter of pit dogs. I know some do.. but I feel like the dog isn't likely to encounter anything hunting that will even approximate what a pit bull was bred for. I am not hoping the dog will track. My terriers do that well. I am looking for a dog that will not kill the hunting dogs. I am looking for a dog that will anchor and subdue game without regard for it's own well being. The little dogs do this well.. but well.. they are little. Sometimes it helps to have a little more a$$ in the pack. My Drahthaar serves me well and is fearless on big game. But sometimes she comes up short. The EBT I saw work hogs could really close it's mouth. It had plenty of drive for what it was. If and when I am choosing a dog to be bred to an EBT it will be an Eli dog to hopefully reinforce a trait that has always been my favorite. I like hard biting dogs. I'll take a chance and cross my fingers. If it works the dog will be useful in all sorts of scenarios. The compressed Eli inbreeding may do well with new avenues for the genes to travel... or not.

 

In the end I would loose most of what made the pit bull unique in any cross. I will hope to save or reinforce the traits I need while watering down those I dont... if your gonna wish... I suppose you may as well wish big.

Rumor is Walter Komosinski did it in the seventies I think but who knows. Doc... Your probably right. But like I said, If your gonna wish.. might as well make it big.

one of the best pit dogs in the uk had ebt in it ....

but then if you was i.t.k back in the 70s / 80s you would already know this gnasher !

 

Best of its era yes......to compare to purebred bulldogs of later eras would just be silly.......all them old crosses be them stafford/ebt or the bulldog/ebt ones were dogs of their day.............if you had all day to think of an ebt cross in more recent times that made its mark you couldnt do it..........times move on.

Interesting ..................i guess im questioning what qualities an ebt could stamp in on generations of quality breeding and reproduce.........i still cant see it myself whether it be physical or mental qualities i fail to see how or what an ebt could add to a good representative of a bulldog in any kind of athletic pursuit.

Fair enough... At best it's a gamble with low odds of success based on a short term set of goals and realistic expectations.. I wouldn't likely breed the resulting crossed dog even IF it clicked, and the dog would likely die in the feild.

 

Darby is a dog I'll hunt, not one I got to breed. But if some good ol boys that hunted with her decide they want some pups off of her I'd do it. As for the Eli EBT I could likely find a cur bred APBT that will do the trick, and I'm probably making it unnecessarily hard on myself but part of the fun is in trying new sht and hoping beyond reason.

I guess I'd be hoping for a stout dog plenty durable that would drop the hammer on small game and hang on to a hog. But like I said I know next to nothing of EBTs. I'm hoping that what they say, is true about the mouth. I've been told Darby does some damage to a coons jaw... we'll see soon enough.

I'm outside the box here, and can only guess that Jawn wants something with a jawline and head like gator, and bombproof with it, not overly agile, but like an anchor with teeth. That sounds like a bleeding handfull! (I hunt rabbits by the way!)
