chartpolski 24,866 Posted November 6, 2012 Report Share Posted November 6, 2012 I remember when "man for man" marking came about, but it was usualy putting one defender to continualy mark one exceptionaly dangerous forward. That never realy worked out, as defenders were expected more and more to get around like fit professionals, rather than donkeys ! Now they talk about "zonal defending" ; as has already been said, it didn't work for Man City tonight ! Whatever happened to full backs and central defenders just doing their jobs and being fit enough to cover for each other ! Cheers. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Unfortunately it means that teams which adopt this system concede more goals and hasten the departure of the manager which adopted the system. This is particularly true in England, where as has been said players have been brought up with man marking. It's a classic example of fixing summat which ain't broke. Bye bye Mancini.
