Ratsmasher 36
7s will give a denser pattern but 6s are better in popular opinion Quote Link to post
Wildfowler 1
7s will give a denser pattern but 6s are better in popular opinion 7's don't have enough velocity to justify 3/4 choke 6's or 5's do but I use 1/4 and 1/2 mostly. Quote Link to post

I'm no expert but that doesnt sound right, and anyway I didn't say it in the first place, I always go No. 6 for pigeons, I was just suggesting why he might have said it IMO As long as your not using full choke or cylinder, and your shooting between 28g 7.5s and 32g 5s and your sensible about you and your guns limitations then you cant go wrong Edited December 14, 2012 by Ratsmasher Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
I never realy got away with 7's when on the pigeon's..they seemed to be more bird's dropping miles away once hit compared the when i used 30/32grm 6's..i only ever used 28grm 7's on the clay's as that is a big as i was allowed to use plus it save's shoulder ache..but if i could of got away with 6's i would of used them all the time.. ..as they seemed to smash the clay's a lot easier especialy with the long or high bird's.. Ratsmasher 36
Well if it works for you then fair enough and as I said im no expert, but for me it would be too open because I roost shoot and flight as well as decoy so sometimes the ranges would be too far for an open choke. But im also of the opinion that its better to fill a pigeon with lead as cause wastage (I'll add at this stage that the only things that shoot and dont eat are rats foxes and crows and I hate to waste) then to prick and wound birds.
