yeah could be i bougth a bear trap slip on neoprain with 5 shims can add upto 1.1/2 !

i took the recoil pad off the gun and added allsorts of things , in the end with some pine spacers fitted i need a 1 1/2" extra , the 2" is with out but pad fitted .

big thank you guys you caused me to learn loads today . if i ever part with big money for a game gun its gonna need to fit well or il never invest .

wholaped 2 crows tonight with 410 fun little gun , i seem to miss rabbits close with it but know crows out at distance !!

just need that permisson now the 2 fields i have are limeted and across from my house so im hammering them !!

hello lads im back from a long break from shotgun shooting iv got a hatsan escort 12g i cant hit shit with it ha ha , im better with my 410 !!

anyway its multi choke and iv had the full choke in and some poor gamebore 6 30g in it and the preformance is shite !!

i used to be able to hit things hard at 50 55 yards easy when i was younger but with this i cant work out leads etc .

anyway what chokes you guys got in and what loads you shooting on mixed days with crows and pigeons ?

ps asking for permmission is horrible i did 15 miles and 25 farms last week in one session and got not one permission !!

i think you need to get some practice on the clays pal, forget about chokes or cartridges thats not gunna make you hit them! I would leave the live stuff till your shooting consistantly! Consistant shooting requires confidence, concentration, and a clear head, start thinking about the ones you missed and y you missed and all you will do is miss! But seriously get some practice on the clays!

get yourself down to a local clay shoot and see how you go even better speak to some of the knowledgable blokes and ask em

about the fit of your gun etc a patern plate would also be good to try different loads and chokes,it will show you what is hapening

with your patern.

full choke for someone who is struggling isnt the best option but i think there is more to the problem.

personaly i use 1/2 and 3/4 with 71/2's but thats me doesnt mean it would suit you or your gun.

update iv not had full choke in since i workedout the gun fit was bad .

iv had an extention on it for weeks to . i agree about clays but funds and all that at the moment are prohibative .

im selling the semi auto and going to buy a clay gun , and resume clay shooting which i enjoy i just need to structure my budget .

today we have asked almost 40 farmers and nothing .

so im going to give up wait till we move to a better county where things are a little more friendly !!

re shooting im hiotting ground game perfect with it but its not for me .

On a serious note with a properly fitted gun i done good with 1/4 and 1/2 using 30/32grm 6's for everything feather wise and 28grm 7 1/2's for the clay's..but it depend's on your gun some have tighter barrel's than other's so you may get away with true cylinder and quarter if you have a tight barrel..and the opposite if the barrel is not so tight.

true cylinder and 1/4 is what my gun as and tbh id rather have 1//4 and 1/2 or 1/2 and 1/2 but seen as i havent i just got used to using it and im not doing to bad with it now lol

You may be limited on clean kill's at distance Chid but if it aint broke don't try and fix it or so they say..

I aggree the open chokes do limit to an extent! However you can also adjust the way the gun chokes the shot by using different cartridges but as a general rule 40 yards plus you will struggle at times to acheive clean kills/ breaks consistently! Alot of game guns are very open choked but these were most probably for walked up game! I use 1/4 and 1/2 in my o/u and it kills great at range you dont nead more choke than this inless your shooting seriously high birds!

The most successful pigeon shooter is the one that can get close to his quarry every time.

 

Close quarter shooting with a heavily choked gun can do one of two things; causing you to miss, or damage the bird, so its not particularly appealing on a plate.

 

High birds pulled down, especially in frosty weather ends up in a similar condition as the chest fillets can be full of bruised blood. By the way high pheasants shot over hard ground are often 'spoiled' for the table.

 

After all, all your keen sports people are really hoping to eat some of what you shoot?
