patterdale666 1,620
I know of 5 Bedlington based dogs that have had bad heart murmurs Thanks for the reply Stabs So it must be a common enough problem in the bedlingtons then? Quote Link to post
Stabs 3
Don't know mate. The ones I knew were all unrelated too. There were varying degrees of severity though. Two of them had to stop work and retire to pet homes. The others weren't worked to a great degree so it never curtailed their lifestyle. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has come across this in them as I've often wondered if it's a Bedlington thing or if I've just come across 5 unlucky individual dogs. Quote Link to post
omegathelast 160
What a shitter My beddy cross lived until she was 14 1/2 so I feel for your mate. I have read about some beddy strains carrying defective genes but I dont know enough about it to comment. 1 Quote Link to post
patterdale666 1,620
I'd just like to see how common it is for this to happen His young lad is devastated the dog died in his arms I dont think he will take on a beddy cross again. 1 Quote Link to post
danny300 2,240
never heard of that before jay hope your mate gets sorted soon 1 Quote Link to post
troter58 1,711
never heard of it been around bedlington crosses for a good 40 years seen a good few worked hard to so i would think your mate was unlucky with his and any sort of dog can have a heart attack at any time if it is born with a poor ticker atb 1 Quote Link to post
wuyang 513
Heart murmurs also quite common in whippets, last two of my mothers both had them. Edited November 5, 2012 by wuyang 1 Quote Link to post

Guest long-tail
brother had a saluki/grey with a bit of collie a good few years back dropped dead with a heart attack while running a hare.she was around 3 or 4 had one myself do the same thing, the nature of the game we are in and the work theyare required to do will weed out dogs with any kind of health problems dont think its type related personaly could happen to any of them, although stabs comment might get me thinking on it Quote Link to post
