hi, as im completly new to longnets, and having got a 25yd net it has 3 poles one on each end and one in middle, is this enough poles for length of net? only tried it once just to get the hang of it and it seems very baggy between poles?! as i said im brand new to longnets! thanks

Depends on the ground you intend to use it on. I think every 7/8 yards is about standard for smooth ground or every 5 for rougher ground. Ive just read that rabbits run higher on rough ground, so having a saggy head line could cause them to go over the net.

They got some 10mm ones on ebay for around £30 posted for 10 poles. Or you can print off a order form, write a check and get some 12mm with end caps and grommets from Magnum trap co. They sell them in singles, £3.70 a pop.

Never used 12mm poles, i think 10mm are fine so can't see the point in carrying the extra weight. Are you using 12mm poles on that basket bob as you would need a 13.5 mm slot and if you are using grommets instead of castration rings you wont get as many poles in.

i think 12mm poles adds extra weight thats not needed. With regards to the peg spacing, if your making it as a quickset you want 5 yard centers as you've no bridals to keep your top lines nice and tight. ive had some simple bridals and end pins made for my quicksets and have no problem maintaining headline height.

I put a purse net ring over the pole then peg the net down when the top line is sagging, also good for setting the net on corners, keeps the pole ridged. You can see this in this pic.

spot on mate, thats what ive had made up for night work but the ring is larger than a standard purse net ring, think it was just what he had laying around the workshop but works a treat.

LC,

Recently gave me a visit, I wish i had his skills, he looks at something, then thinks, how can I better this, and he does.

He showed me the purse net on the end pole, really does tighten it up.

And you are not carrying anything extra, everyone takes purse nets.

A really simple idea, that works, so simple, I thought, why didn't i think of that.
