hw97k 36
for a newbie probably a .177 but mines so accurate in .22 just get used to the trajectory and bingo ,its one hell of an hunting gun. atb. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
This is one where only you can really decide which is the way to go on calibre ryanod90.. If it was me I'd go for .177 in this case. Superb hunting and HFT competition rifle all in one! Pianoman Quote Link to post
Lewis Ste 245
Go go for .22 I have one it .22 and its got all the knock down power you need. I think .22 much better on rabbits and squirrels but it doesn't really matter for pigeons. Better in the wind aswel and also the recoil is not as harsh as it is in .177 Hope them points helped Lewis Quote Link to post
ryanod90 17
thanks everyone for the help on the picking of my air rifle if anyone else ahs there view feel free to keep posting it up but for the ones that have they all are very much appreciated, Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
For me, using a springer I'd go .22 every time, without fail. They simply go off sweeter with softer recoil. Rangefinding needs to be a bit sharper for outright accuracy but I think the recoil payoff is more than worth it. Plus the .22 pellet holds on to its kinetic energy that bit longer and has more 'shock' power. 1 Quote Link to post
bigmac 97kt 13,807
As the duncan has said 22 every time pluss the wind dus efect 177 all of mine have been 22 but if you can shoot as good as simon (pianoman) then it will not mater what you get 22 or 177 but if your still not shoor go to a shooting range and try both if you can then what phantom has said pick the one you feel happy with if you cant get to a range most gun shops will have a small range so you can try both rifles atvbmac Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Thank you BigMac for your kindnesses yet again! A hunting gun for me is .22 For the reasons The Duncan has stated. Plus, it doesn't take an Einstein to work out trajectories for .22 pellets at sub-12ft/lbs. I'm just as happy with .177 as I can shoot pretty well with both for an effectively humane kill. But I've seen too many serious wounds inflicted with .177 with other shooters, to use it without care for what living creatures there are as pests for shooting. Even a rat deserves a humane, fast despatch to the head. But a .177 HW97K would make a great competition rifle too but, that is a personal thing! I'd recommend the .22 version as a pure hunting rifle. Best wishes. Pianoman Edited November 4, 2012 by pianoman 2 Quote Link to post
