Any idea how long a pheasant wing will last after cutting it off?

Like dead pigeons I would imagine mate, use it until you can't stand the smell any more! Lol lol

 

With all the other advice, thanks again lads and I think I will just go steady away and work on the principle of no dog ever got ruined by leaving it a bit longer.

Lads wat would you class as to early for the dog to see feather??

 

My springer bitch was started on pigeons at nine months, would this be classed as to early or does it depend on the dog?

depends on dog mate mine was 9 months and he took to it no bother but my mates is a bit iffy at the same age so iff in doubt let it come on a bit 1st

hi there ,just bought my first gundog pup !!!being reading the posts about cold game .....can anyone enlighten me about cold game !!does it mean literally cold ???if so why train a pup on cold birds as apposed to freshly shot game ?.

I'd say cold just means dead rather than actually cold and it's just the practicality I would imagine. If you could get freshly shot birds it would be just as good or better but how easy could you get a freshly shot bird twice a week just before a training session? Also I reused some of the birds I got.

Place the flesh end ie bit you cut it off from in a bowl of salt for a couple of days. Have got a tail and two wings wrapped on a dummy from last season still

Cheers Smokey top advice. My last bird was starting to smell a bit after I left it in the game bag for a bit too long.

 

Going again in a couple of weeks so I'll do what you said
