Brimmer 220
Basically following on from best nets post. Over the last few years, i have been making nets, mainly out of nylon. BOOOOOOOOOH, i hear you cry and can understand why! I am just a rookie when it comes to net making, but like the idea i have exactly what i want, which i am a bit off yet. Basically what is the best knot for nylon? Have found some of my older nets have the knots coming undone beause i have not swung on them, the thicker the nylon the worse it is, recent 6z's are holding fast, but to be honest i was nearly cutting myself pulling a single knot tight, and its the same knot you find in commercially made netting. Dont like the double knot it looks too bulky, and have never seen it on commercial netting. Is there a good knot for nylon that does not need 15 stone swinging on it to have a permanent hold? Tiercel 6,986
Brimmer, The reason you cannot make the knot the same as on the loom made nets is, as they pull the knots tight the knots get a burst of steam, nylon shrinks when it is heated so when the steam is put on the knot and the knot pulled tight it shrinks into place, that is how they can get away with only single knotting it. I would take tomos advice and use a Carric bend. TC 1 Quote Link to post
TOMO 27,504
Although to be honest mate,,, feck making them out of nylon,,, I will hand braid spun poly and hemp,, or cotton, but there's plenty of descent sheet netting out there it's easier to just braid a ring on. I bought 200 yard of 10z from advanced netting, just cut it 4 foot lengths braid a ring on and line ,,, piece of piss Quote Link to post

netrigger 568
Or you can throw the sheet bend then throw another half turn above this,, The knot will be bigger though but it keeps all the rows nice and neat. 1 Quote Link to post
