not always the case mate however a call to your local firearms dept. will give you the answer as to what your chances are, or just apply but make sure your truthfull on the application as they will check. if your refused they will refund your money.

You need to have been clean for at least 5 years.

as long as it wasnt too recent and wasnt violent you should be ok...depends on the police force

as paulus says, give your FEO a buzz hes there to help not to stop you getting a license

You need to have been clean for at least 5 years.

 

Not necessarily so,

 

It depends on the offence,

 

Between 3 months and three years custodial you are banned for five years. Over three years custodial then you are banned for life.

 

All other offences however serious or minor are considered when you apply.

 

You'll never know unless you put pen to paper. Just be honest and declare absolutely everything.

i was worried about the same thing when i applied for mine, when i was a kid i was a little naughty but now 20 yrs on have 4 kids and when i explained and put down on paper my feo wasnt bothered at all, what he said is if you got caught being a happy drunk 6 months back he would give you a ticking of and laugh at me, if i was an aggressive drunk then chances are i wouldnt be getting sgc.. also time inside would would effect my chances, drug and alcohol related incidences, violence etc

Just be honest mate or give them a ring before you apply and lay the cards on the table i was surprised how easy the whole application is, just waiting for mine to be signed and delivered which should be any day
