how I come to be here, my Father who served in the war, was in the battle of Dunkirk, wounded, like thousands, of other soldiers,served with the H,L,I, and on his rehab, after his discharge from the military hospital, was transferred up to Kirkpatrick-fleming, in charge of the prisoners of war, UKRAINE, POLISH, AND A FEW GERMANS, AND THAT IS HOW i COME TO BE DOWN HERE IN THE BORDERS

and they ate well with all of the rabbits, HARES, AND A few wood pidgeons, and the veg from the fields,,

So he was in the HLI . My old man was in that in palastine. You will know that Rommel stood on top of his tank and saluted everyone of the captured HLI at Dunkirk.

No he never talked or dicussed about the war, and my Uncle, he was in the same regiment,in the same battle, and from the same place,((( Glasgow), he lost his leg,

they only met in the same Hospital, and he married my mothers cousin,,, (((( small world,)))

been a plasterer for the last 10 years, helps bein self employed because your your own boss. people have said to me you should be well off but i love my hunting and would rather hunt than slog it out at non stop. im happy if the bills are paid fridge is full and ive got diesel money to get out...

 

my sentiments too. i'm a self employed carpenter and i make sure the bills are paid and theres plenty of food and the rest of the time is for hunting and my animals. life is too short to waste it doing something you don't enjoy.

 

 

never had a trade, just done heavy manual work all my life, which is ok till it fecks you up my case bad back as ive said on my thread. But a joiner or carpenter , i always thought it sounded like a nice job, and well paid . My son (25) coaches football under 16's , full time job but got a Degree in (sports therapy) but finding it hard to get that kind of work, as most want his skills but dont want to pay for it .

Electrical / mechanical engineer, done a apprentaship in 1998 till 2002 then went back to further my education and I been doing the same job for the past 12 years, I love it fair play. Work long hours but get payed the overtime, got a 2 year old little girl and my mrs works shifts and still manage to get out Lamping and mooching, not as much ferreting but I'm hoping to do a lot more this season, oops forgot to say I love carp fishing too, take the lurcher with me.

Worked for the same company for 20 years as a diesel generator engineer earned some good money.They went into liquidation just before Christmas last year.Work for myself now don't make as much dough now but enjoy the lifestyle.As long as I can pay my way and get out and about that will do for me.

i drive a telescopic forklift on a building site , up to me axles in mud all day , i take the dogs out before work and again after work , then the weekend is all mine :laugh: but wouldnt mind tossing it off all day and sponging of the state :hmm:

Good idea lol aye if you want to live like a dead beat. Ive a mate who is on the dole, and no being big headed , but if it wasn't for me digging him out back and forward , and my maw handing in casseroles and stuff. The poor c**t would starve. 50 quid he gets a week. Some would say 50 quid to much, but there are reasons he can't get work.

After labouring for a builder and working for my Dad for a bit I started on with a small company fabricating and erecting steel plus roofing and cladding. Pretty much always worked with my younger brother and after 18 months or so and crap pay we decided to set up on our own, that was 1998...... An old Astra estate, bag of tools and a labourer, I was 21 my brother 19 and we earnt good money and spent it quick.... We got a bit bigger as time went on and turned over good money but seemed to earn less lol.... We traveled all over the country, we laid the roof and walls and all Ali works, at Mercedes at Cardiff gate, hung huge cladded doors in st Athans, roofing and cladding on new Tescos in penistone, Gloucester, Congelton .....waitrose at reading..... We got done for 42k and I didn't sleep as I was sure I'd lose the house the lot...... Then everything went full circle and we merged with the bloke who was our first boss... I'm now in the office most of the time, got a small fab shop and we're securing some nice contracts I'm in Caerphilly tomorrow for a new KFC and another in Endfield.... I've worked my nuts off and at 36 ( nearly) With a little luck it could all start to become worth it...we employ 8 on the books an a few subbie gangs and I've started my nephew on an apprenticeship scheme to eventually have an nvq in roofing and cladding...I know we would struggle to start again now so good luck to the young lads who are having a go

The dogs have come onto site with me, and they come with me now in the office or on the run around, they get walked and looked after that's the main thing......
