RatSniper 19
Get the most realistic decoys you can get, we use these off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-PIGEON-DECOY-SHELL-HIGH-DEFINITION-DECOYING-SHOOTING-STICK-PEG-FREE-POSTAGE-/200680433388?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item2eb97c66ec. We have been shooting pigeons over the summer on a orchard we have shot hundreds. Im no expect in decoys but have had success with it. But the basic rules are Always face upwind, You need some sort of food around which they come to feed otherwise they wont land and if they do they will soon relies they have been fooled and fly off. A hid is not need unless your shooting in the opening and if you gonna build a hide do its 2-3 days before shooting to let the birds get use to it there. My preferred style is using natural cover, ie for me during the summer i was standing in broad beans , rasberrys, plum tree's etc. I decoyed a pigeon to 4 yards in front of me whilst just laying on the grass with some dog leaves covering me a bit. But make sure no skin is showing and no white items. They have amazing eye sight and also see in uv. Also try to make sure you cant have the sun behind you as it makes it more difficult to see you with the shadow cast over you. Hope this helps regards. Rob Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Rat sniper has nailed it really mate, a horse shoe pattern for the deeks is also a good idea I've heard and also think about the amount of decoys needed for the space in which you want them to land, ie 1 or 2 deeks in a massive field might not help but then loads of deeks in a small field might look odd and scare them off from landing. kill zone 27
thanks guy will give it a go whats the best food to use>? Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
Best food is what they are feeding on. It's illegal to bate them down. Instead you need to find where the pigeons are feeding (at this time of year on my permissions they are hammering the late drillings or heading to the woods for berries). Set up under or near a sitty tree or feeding flight line and wait. There's a whole section dedicated to the art about three clicks away on here. They have a beginners guide for shotgunners but all the principles apply to the airgun Pigeon decoyer Patience and learning is the name of the game. Quote Link to post
The one 8,493
The general rule i follow is a day watching where the pigeon are feeding then a day's shooting after a wee while you will spot flightlines and see where the birds are headed then you will see what there feeding on and be able to settle near there , any letter with your decoys works as long as you give incoming birds space to land Quote Link to post
