Joe Jeffrey 0
Hi, so basically I'm looking to get my first air rifle. I'm hoping to find a decent breakbarrel that will do me for target shooting and small game hunting (nothing bigger than a rabbit). I'd appreciate any advice people can give me. I don't want to spend too much but equaly theres no point getting a crap weapon because it will most likely deter me from the sport. I am in the military and experienced with the SA80 A2. I'm also looking for groups of people in the North tyneside area who maybe meet up occasionaly for some shooting? Like I said any advice on anything at all would be greatly appreciated Quote Link to post

Joe Jeffrey 0
Nothing more than £150 really, but I could break that for the right gun I guess, maybe something where I can get a package deal with scope, slip ect. I'm just testing the water here so by all means tell me if I need to be spending more Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi Joe. Royal Navy? Right then Laddie! Your break-barrel air rifle of choice lies between a Weihrauch HW80 or shorter HW80K carbine; or a Weihrauch HW95. These are about the same weight as an SA80 A2. The HW95 is about the weight of an SA80 A1... The SA80 A1 was lighter due to the amount of bits falling off it! (I'm ex RAF regiment son. Believe me, they shed more bits than your shipmates do on shore leave! ) £150 will buy you a reasonable second hand job, a bit more will get you a better bargain with a decently useful scope and maybe a gunslip and a sling. But, brand new the HW80 is about £350 and the HW95 can be had for under £300. Not really a great deal to pay when, in both cases, you'll be getting an air rifle that will last you a lifetime, never let you down and will keep you shooting when other rifles will pack up. These are both break barrels and are absolutely beautiful. Accurate as a rifle can be, in either .22 .20 or .177 calibre full power for any rabbit hunting you want to do and easy to maintain. In my experience, the HW80 particularly is the best break barrel air rifle in the world bar none! PERIOD! Anything else is the junk a lot of people buy first then, trade it up to a Weihrauch rifle when they get fed up of shit triggers, twangy internals and have finally reached a level of marksmanship that enables them to hit a barn door!. Save your money and a lot of time faffing about and go for supreme quality German-built rifles like these It's a matter of try them at your gunshop and see which of the two you prefer the handling of. All the best. Pianoman Edited October 30, 2012 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post

Pianoman to add.. with the weirachs get spare screws, any sign of or any hnt off disgaurd the old and pop in the new, it'll last a life time that way. the saw me through 5 year intensive shooting, 2 of those 24/7.. theres a couple nylo/ptfe etc innerd bits to add later for better internal perferformance, i never got on with the box ox springs in the though. robwelsh 354
Diana's are built really well too. I had the 280 carbine, only thing I didn like was the plastic trigger blade, but felt nice enough. An for 240 quid new compared to bsa ,webley etc there was.no comparison in build quality an the action etc. That too is German built. Quote Link to post
