Carraghs Gem 1,675
Nothing unusual there... Trained isds reg sheepdogs fetch from 2k ,when fully trained, trialing stock fetches far more than that Although you could easily pick up an unreg plain old worker for about
gamerooster 1,179
some of these big prices are just done to give the auction mart extra hype, sometimes they are friends of the man selling the dog
R.A.W 1,987
were in the wrong lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how much is a working lurcher worth????????
Carraghs Gem 1,675
some of these big prices are just done to give the auction mart extra hype, sometimes they are friends of the man selling the dog They did that with connemara ponies over here... But in all seriousness a stylish young dog showing serious trialing potential is worth the price it sold for. There is a reason isds reg collies are around 200-300 as pups and several thousand as adults... There is very high litter wastage, majority of litter will be average at best, some may not work at all.
gamerooster 1,179
was at skipton last year, as long as a dog showed interest in the sheep, it made at least 750 quid
Lab 10,979
I wonder if this dog will get sold on again..................

Carraghs Gem 1,675
Im not used to the auctions lol, if any pup sells for 750 just because it shows interest in sheep im sitting on a goldmine Most of my pups ive bred in the past were very keen from 3-4mths onwards although I havent bred a litter in 3yrs

JohnGalway 1,043
It's his money, he can buy what he likes with it. I certainly couldn't afford to spend that on a dog. He could be the richest man in his county for all we know. Auctions are funny things. Blackface rams have gone over £100k, but that's pedigree circles, and I do mean circles. Because no, or at least not many, commercial outfits can afford to piddle around with that type of thing. Friends will bid on friends animals to jack up prices, animal may be officially sold, but in reality may not be sold at all. Auctions are as straight as politicians. Take it all with a tub of salt. €650 will get you a partially trained working dog here, no papers. No need for papers either as a working dog is a working dog and all that matters is that s/he can do their job. We've had abused dogs here turn into good working sheepdogs more than once, got them for €0.00. The thing most people won't take into account is the trainers time. If he wants to pay himself for the time he uses to train the dog to whatever standard, unless he's paying himself peanuts the dog will likely be into the four figures. A good dog on a hill is worth his weight in gold. Edited October 30, 2012 by JohnGalway
