Acuspell 329
Dunno about trading under another name, but they went to the wall (Bust) last week Tony ps no doubt someone will try to rescue the company, but...... We will see No they won't because they only went bust in the UK, not the USA. I have already said it elsewhere, but Theoben UK only assembled the already US made parts ofr the last 2 years. Every Theoben rifle for 2 years was made in the USA and sent over in bits, because there is no import duty on parts, but there is on assembled rifles. Martin Rutherford owns Theoben and is still trading as Theoben in the US, he also owns Rapid Air Weapons, again in the USA. He is trying for US citizenship. Theoben UK was merely used as a tax sink- they made losses because the dirctor took out more than they made. It is a good way of getting money tax free, as a dividend and the company sucks the mop. That is what has happened over here - th eprofits have simply been hived off as dividends and the company allowed to close because there was never any intention to keep it going here. The Theoben name is owned by Martin and is in use, so cannot be sold or resurected unless he wants to. The bigger sadness is that he has also taken Custom Stocks with him - or so I would think. Theoben in the UK was their biggest customer, regular customer, a few private sales don't provide a living for a company like that. Quote Link to post

pianoman 3,587
Custom Stock are still trading. I hope they continue to prosper. They make a fine stock for not such a lot of money and most air rifles can be fitted out with them. Quote Link to post

Acuspell 329
Why the f**k sell the company to a yank in the first place He isn't, he is a Brit who is trying to get US citizenship. At the moment he is on a long term visa only, he may have got accepted by now, I don't know. There are already several custom producers of parts for Rapids. The new Chippy Smith blocks are available, valves, hammers, hammer pips, springs and trigger cartridges are available - Chambers can supply barrels, as can BSA (good barrels too). Many Rapids are pretty customised now anyway - and all the better for it. Those who have the ticket can get phenomenal air efficiency from the Rapid - I have a friend who is getting 30 shots at 30ft-lbs from a 280cc bottle (.20 cal) It is amazing how efficienyt they can be made - and strong with it, hence their popularity amongst those who know about them - The slaggers don't know what they are slagging! 2 Quote Link to post
