im going to have a go at piking through the summer but last season i got pesterd by the little jacks even fishing on the botom is there way i can get round this

could,nt agree more with that ,jack pike will take bait there own size there greedy little c--ts

av caught big pike with very small bait.

Normally when there is a hen fish around,there will be somewhere near 10 jacks trying to mate with her.That is why you keep catching jacks,but,I have had the best results by nailing a big mackerel hard on the bottom,and spinning over the top,trying to keep the jacks up in the water...........give it a try,and,let us know how you get on............................Martin.

TRY spinning with biggish sized spinners or as brokenleg said use the next jack pike you catch suspended dead bait mid water puncture the swim bladder and inject it with a strong fish oil if possible

dont bother putting a bigger lure or spinner on as ive had jacks on lures twice as big as the jack just be thankful ya catching keep on and the big one will come my biggest to date is 17 pound not a monster but fun to catch before that came loads of jacks

what i have noticed, might just be me but if i ledgered a dead bait i get good sized pike, if i live or dead bait with a float ive had more jacks, my biggest pike so far was 16 half lb useing lamprey

I have never had a big one on lures, all my doubles having fallen to deadbaits, either legered or float-flished on the bottom, though i have had a few scraper doubles on lives Looking at my records, the best bait, for me, seemed to be sardine with an extra dose of oil on it. When fishing for the pike in summer/autumn i dont head for the deeps, i like to fish the shallows and have had doubles only 3 or 4 yards out from the bank. Pike follow the food and they also like the warm water that the shallows give IMHO. Of course, in April and may, i like to fish the bays where the big girls hang out prior to spawning.... love pike, the freshwater shark JD

On the subject of pike ,has livebait been banned nationwide as every water we visit has a ban .Dead baits fished hard or just off the bottem will score you bigger fish every time .Puncture the swim bladder to create a fast sinker or ram it full of pop up boilies in weeded areas to let it "sit" on weed .Used to inject deadbaits with air but this dosnt last long .
