starving before working

Recommended Posts

it you wont feel like eating there fore get less lie ups........

I don't really buy into "if a ferret has food in its belly or not will prevent lie ups", a good ferret wants to kill rabbits whether fed or not there murderous little buggers by nature.

Most lie ups are arsed up rabbits which simply don't want to bolt for a number of reasons. I don't believe lie ups are caused because the ferret decides it wants to chow down on a coney as its hungry. In my fairly limited experience it just wants to kill the rabbit, and often will move on again.

disagree if a starving ferret has one in stop end it will kill it and eat it ,.............it wont move on if its starving ,............what do wild ferrets eat when there starving?

they just kill and move on lol

if there werent no lie ups ,.....you wouldnt need a finder

i feed mine as said before working and mine kill and come away ,.............if anything is hungry enough it will stay and eat ,..........dont care what any one says

that sounds like theory not practice to me, have you ever actually been ferreting?

the last bit is theory because ive never worked starving ferrets,............but it dont take a genius to work out what comes natural to a starving ferret

What I am saying is most are going to happen anyway, due to arsed up sticking rabbits and stop ends etc. I agree if the poor fecker is staving and not been fed for days of course its going to eat at f

This was common practice many years ago which thankfully now has all but died out .... Ferrets should have access to food and water 24/7 .... Would you like to do a full days work on an empty stomach

All joking aside, people should respect their little workers, treat them right and feed the poor fuckers for f**k sake   Hungry and weak ferrets are not going to give there best

I normally feed my ferrets in the morning, usually dried food, except for ferreting days when they are fed when we return home. I don't believe that these are starved ferrets. They are more energetic, not weak from starvation. They are carnivores, mustelids, who when they have eaten normally sleep. In my opinion just skipping breakfast makes them just a touch sharper, and less lethargic.

my ferts are doubled up in there boxs an they strip a whole rabbit every 3 days,

i mean strip i skin an gut it an hang it up in the box an all thats left is bones,

when i put them in a burry or warren i no when they come up its clear,

dont people care about a ferret leaving rabbits behind,

if my ferrets kill in they only ever chew round top of the neck under the chin or behind ears,

been digging to ferts since i was 15 an never had one a sleep yet

I think a few on this thread are regurgatating crap they've heard and a few are just silly.....digging down to sleeping ferts, starve and they're sharper less lethargic !!!!

I've also heard if you snap their teeth they don't kill in either.

I feel that the last post is a bit of a pop at me. What I said was that they don't get fed the morning that they work, not starved, and in my opinion they are a bit sharper. Of course each individual ferret is different, and this is opinion based on having tried different methods over many years and differing ferreting situations. it's not regurgitated crap I've heard, just experience.

Don't be so paranoid, if it was directed at you I'd have said.
