MR TEA POT 1,287
Hi folks i have been fishing for a few years now(carp fishing, pike fishing feeder and float).i watched a video the other day by barrie rickards, and thought that looks a nice way to spend a few evenings. I was just wondering if there is any people on here that do lure fishing and whats your biggest fish you have had on lures,i will mainly fish for pike and perch. Also what type of gear do you use ie.rods, reels line etc,i know about unhooking pike as i have done a bit of pike fishing before with deadbaits. And last question what is your best plug, spoon or spinner? the one you know will catch the fish.Cheers bigeddie. Quote Link to post

Irish Lurcher 1,013
Lure fishing is one of the most exciting ways of catching Pike, especially in the summer months when Pike are most active. Surface lures are a real killer on calm days where you have access to bays full of Lilly pads, skitter popper is a top lure, made by Rapala. Have you tried fly fishing for them? Quote Link to post
brokenleg 0
Great way to fish. As Irish Lurcher says it leads to some knee trembling sport. My best fish so far has been a 15 1/2 pound pike from Loch Loyne. The tackle i use is a Toothy Critter 6'6'' jerkbait rod (the upside downy pistol grippy type thing) An Ambassador multiplier reel. Loaded with 30?lb braid. My favourite lure has to be the one thats catching, but i quite like mepps for spinning and jelly tails for the jerkbait. The lure i caught the 15lber on (can't remember it's name) was a white and red cigar shaped lure, with a silver propellor on the front. I would put that lure at the top of the list as well. MR TEA POT 1,287
Thanks for the replys so far. Brokenleg i was looking at one of them rods you use and thought 6ft must be for small fish and you say you had a 15lb on one so the rods must be good then,i think i might have to purchase one.I see you use braid, somebody told me that braid is better for lure fishing as you feel every little knock and bump is this true?. Where did you buy your rod from? Irishlurcher i have never fly fished for anything,is it good for pike then? I like the idea of taking a pike off the surface,i saw one surface lure a few years ago called(i think)THE CRAZY CRAWLER good name. Just one more question is there any lures you would not touch with a barge pole?just so i don't go out and buy them. Thanks again i will be investing in some tackle,is there a decent online shop to buy gear from? Quote Link to post
Ricky-N.p.p 0
fly fishing for pike is awsome mate ! the only advice i would give about buying lures is not to get carried away ! the cheap ones work just as well as the expensive ones ! I have a mate who has been known on several occations to spend 30 quid on a fecking lure ! f**k that mate ! oh and that is true about braid ! be lucky rick Quote Link to post
brokenleg 0
Great wee rod. The only problem i have with it is it's too stiff. It's got a casting wieght of 4oz. So if i was buying one again i'd go for maybe 2oz. As for them handling the big fish, really not a problem. Braid, i would say is essential. Respect your knots. I have been fishing for lures too many times crack offs will soon piss you off and lures arn't cheap. Got my rod locally in Fife cost about £70 tight lines Quote Link to post
