How long is yours?

Getting CZ452 cut down...wondering what people had gone for and their input on their 'length'?

Got 2 CZ 452's. .22lr is 20'' without the SAK MOD and the 17hmr is 22.5'' without the LEI MOD. I'm left handed and that's the only lengths that they come in. Even though they are very long i can't say it's ever given me any trouble, and they are both extremely accurate. I was going to get them cut down, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I love my hw60's 14 inch barrels. They lose nothing in the accuracy stakes and shooting from a vehicle is a cinch.

Mine is the same as yours - left hook 20".

 

Thinking 12-14" will be best. The rifle looks 'right' as is without the mod on it in terms of length of barrel to stock dimensions etc..at 14" on the barrel with the standard SAK it works out the same length as it is now sans mod.

 

Not the most scientific thinking, but in the absence of any real reason...

I don't know is the honest answer, this phase of getting barrels cut shorter is relatively new!

 

Frankly though, it makes you wonder if a 12 or 14 inch barrel is fine then why do manufacturers go to the trouble and expense of making them longer!

hmmmm seems to be a fashion trend these days, i had a .243 with a 21 inch barrel,

and when i was getting my custom job done on it i extended it to a 24.5 inch barrel, and increased the twist to 1 in 9,

i was told but the gunsmith that cut down my 452 (Catton park) he could only do it to 16inch because of the twist rate of the barrell, its wasnt expensive either £40 odd including re screw cutting

i thought the rule of thumb was shorter barrel less speed, as the longer barrel would keep the bullet in the barrel longer so the explosive pressure could increase the projectile speed?

and if the barrel is short will it slow down the bullets revolutions? as it not get as much of the twist.

Weihrauch reckon 50 fps less for the 14" barrel than 18". This is in .17hmr flavour, bugger all really; 2500 fps rather than 2550 fps.
