Sirius 1,391
Great haul and like others have said I hope I am still going at his age! Re: digging, well I don't like leaving them either but most of my sandy West Country warrens run upto 15ft plus so you just have to leave them. I work anything upto 10 ferrets on these warrens you just can't move them otherwise! Horses for courses. Great post, hope me and leveller get a few ourselves tomorrow! Quote Link to post
chrismdd 787
Great bag there mate, I dream of bags of that size. Hope I'm still ferreting at that age. All the best for the season. Chris Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Thanks for the replies fellers, nice to know folks are interested! Ferretville and Sirius, yes got to hold my hand up and say most of what i say is based on what i do in the region i work, and yes it does differ greatly nationwide, it differs greatly within 500 mtrs on the land i hunt! Tegater, we did go easy on the usual land, and has helped a little, there are a few bunny's throughout the land, maybee next year their will be good numbers. On this land we are going at now, it has not been hit by us for maybee a decade, and has only had the odd poacher and shooter at it, just the few times a year crew, so its had a break. Dont think people understand how fragile rabbit numbers are in reality, personally, the breeding like rabbits phrase is very flawed, it takes a good few seasons to get ridiculous number of rabbits on any place, it does not happen in a season, and can be kept under control very easily if you are keen enough. The old man, was on fire yesterday, but saw him having to give it a miss today, not surprised really, And the two jills were back out today, report to follow. PS. Tomo, go on son, watch out for the flies, the b*****ds were out again today! Quote Link to post

NEWKID 27,216
Great read Brimmer, and as been said well done your dad, ferreting a far from easy so hats off to him...... Interesting ideas on the ferrets mate we work different amounts up to 4 or 5 at a time... Although these are big thick hedges generally and I've found 1 can be given the run around although other days 1 determined ferret does the job... Depends on the day, conditions and terrain and the quality of the ferret.... Atb Kev Quote Link to post
