Airgun law walking between permissions

I think the reason is valid, from this discussion i would say that if it is covered not loaded etc i have a pretty good argument,not covered then i still have a good reason but am not sticking to the "cover" part of the law,so could be in trouble,some sites say it has too be covered others dont mention it.I am pretty sure it does need to be.

What if the road is unadopted??......i think we will leave that for another topic....

Why don't you call the cops? They can put you through to the firearms department. It think you should get it from the horses mouth

Again back in the 's early 90's it was acceptable to wander around rural town and villages with one broken over your arm. It wasn't an uncommon sight at all.

 

Then the media began a hate campain because the Hungerford etc stories sold and made them huge amounts of money, thats when we started covering up our sport and our sports equipment. The media and anti's effectively drove us underground so to speak.

 

Although I'm not certain I believe it would be the same rules/common sense with any firearm.

As mentioned earlier there is no law requiring the Air Gun to be covered, its just common sense in this day and age.

correct the same law applies to all weapons. its still acceptable here to walk around with a shotgun or whatever (at the minute) but i believe with the inability of the younsters in the village to be able to afford housing this will change soon enough. just the other day i was out with the shotgun and lurchers, a young cocker spaniel came out of nowhere, followed shortly by a middle aged couple running and shouting like lunatics, reminded me of the youtube clip of that dog running them deer. they took one look at me and the gun and started with the its illegal to do this and that. a quick reminder that they were on private land with no authority to be there and a dog not under control and they went away. turns out its the couple that had brought one of the local pubs, closed it down and were turning it into holiday home.

my house is just around the corner from my permissions first field. but my neighbours are tossers so if im going out i stick it in the bag..

although one night i went lamping and took it with out the bag,, i felt quite weird and scrared in a way thinking.. friggin hell if somebody sees me walking up the street with a gun im guna get f**ked! even though it was about 3am lol..

 

better safe than sorry tho these days only takes one retard or scared woman or animal rights activist to think.. oh they got a gun im going to ring police..

i would love to be able to walk around the streets blowing crows off peoples chimneys theres about 200 every day on my way to work.. but im sure even with a police escort making sure every shot i took was safe and telling the public not to worry its still not going to happen .. maybe back in the olden days lol

One thing to consider. At least around here is we have a poaching problem. Deer, Hares, sheep pheasants etc,so if you are spotted even at 3 Am suspicions can be aroused so easily.

 

Years ago I wandered far and wide with all manner of arms quite freely on my permissions. As there were walkers and equestrian folk it was fun to see their reactions. Shotgun, air rifle, rimmy all generally well recieved bow or crossbow eeek they almost visibly wet themselves.

 

Those were great days for sure.

Stick it in the case whilst on the road as you don't want armed response coming

id just put it in a gun slip to make sure, mate think that makes it legal

the gun has to show its not loaded, used to apply to shotguns too, but both had to be open, as in the barrel half broke and resting on its stop and the shotgun open with no shells in it.

 

alas today the forse seems to be running after the wet nursed first and after a very long winded tu doo will eventualy resort to the law lol!!

i'll re word to save after effects... airgun barrel had to be cracked open but NOT cocked and open..so you could see it wasnt loaded.

Dont know if this is right or wrong but its still a bit scary

 

The Penalties for breaking current UK firearms laws with Airguns are as follows:-

Carrying a loaded Air-weapon in a public place 6 months imprisonment and / or £5,000 fine.

Trespassing with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.

Trespassing on private land with an air weapon 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.

Possessing or using an air weapon if sentenced to 3 months or more in custody 3 months imprisonment and / or £2,500 fine.

In addition if original sentence up to 3 years 5 year ban on use of firearms.

Or if for 3 years or more Life ban on use of firearms.

Killing or injuring any bird or protected animal unless authorised £5,000 fine.

Firing an air weapon within 15m / 50ft of a public highway £1,000 fine.

Selling or hiring air weapon or ammunition to person under 17 6 months imprisonment and / or £5,000 fine.

Making a gift of air weapon or ammunition to person under 14 £1,000 fine.

Having air weapon or ammunition with intent to damage property 10 years imprisonment.

Having air weapon with intent to endanger life Life imprisonment and / or appropriate fine.

Using air weapon to resist or prevent arrest Life imprisonment and / or appropriate fine.

Threatening others with an air weapon (even if unloaded) to cause them to fear unlawful violence 10 years imprisonment and / or appropriate fine.

Not forgetting the chance of being shot and killed by the police should you not obey instructions when challenged by them, they cannot tell if you have just an airgun or a more lethal firearm so will treat all arms as lethal and respond accordingly.
