bird 10,013
great dogs with kids, same with pits its how you bring them up .But 1 thing i never do is the bones thing, because they should have there own space, and let have the bones with no body there to hassle them.Lets face it if you was eating your dinner and some body kept fecking about with your dinner you would get fed up and let them know , i give bones but in there own kennels, and thats how it should be i think .!

Totally agree Bird taking bones or food off a dog is an unecessary scenario and puts an unnatural stress on a dog for no other reason than to " test him out ".......if someone come and took my fork out of my hand as it was on its way to my mouth they would get a clump and im a mere human being !......why push a dog like that show him respect the only reason you should need to touch a food bowl is to wash it after. fitchet 788
I know what you lads are saying as ive got a dog here that would bite you if you even walked past him when hes eating. I can take his bowl away no trouble but novone else can. Thats why hes in his kennel during the day and only taken out for excersise and work. But what if your child accidentley kicked the dogs bowl away or something ? Thats why everytime ive had a pup ( apart from one ) ive let the kids pull them about play and socialise with them. ATB Why would you have a child around a dog thats eating ?.............and why let the kids pull your dogs about a kid should be taught to respect a dog no dog should be put through the stress of being pulled about. Ive had dogs you wouldnt go within 10 feet of when they are eating even getting the empty bowl away was done with the broom yet they was the most loyal and affectionate dogs you could wish for any other time.............im a believer in letting a dog be a dog and respecting what he is.......but i accept you need a certain amount of trust in a pet friend of the family type dog. Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Now that is not quite right you can never trust a dog with a kid 100% as theres the factor of the kid who can do things to a placid dog to make it turn like on hot sunny day and the kids just keeps winding. Again i do understand what your saying but a dog is a dog and my kids come first before ANY dog. When i say pulled about what i mean is the kids playing with them socialising with them. If you cant trust your dog with your kids then you shouldnt have that dog in contact with them. ATB

Again 100% percent is maybe wrong choice of words but i take this dog to pick up the kids from school everyday and kids are allways fussing him. Just like i can trust my lurchers around stock i can trust this dog with kids.
