Recommended Posts

took my 12 month old lurcher out tuesday night for a walk ,got back to the lane by my gaff and let her of , which i usually do,she totally ignored me and went of in the opposite direction ,i followed her ,she was moochin about ,still would not come back on the call ,,i sat on a fence waiting to catch sight of her,to no joy...by 6 o'clock in the morning i'd had enough , thought f**k the dog,let me tell you i wasn't very happy .9 o'clock the same morning i get a phone call from a friend up the road saying my dogs asleep on his settee ,so off i go to fetch her ,,jesus she stunk to high heaven and was knackered..... she slept for 3 parts of the day !.took her out wednesday afternoon ,she did exactly as she was told,as soon as she started fekin about she was strait back on the leash...so last night i took her out on the lamp ,she was a different dog altogether,,there was nothing about but gave her a run anyway, she was straight back the first time on the call....DOG'S -talk about try your patience ... :angry2: .

I know this dog . It hasn't got saluki in it. It has got a good dose of collie though ( border ).

In my experience the collie input can be seen in two lights.....................either it adds sagacity, some brains to the lurcher mix or it CAN add some degree of intractability.

I guess in the case of my mates bitch ( she isn't in season ) she a young bitch ..............still very much in pup mode and therefore wants to play around a bit, which is understandeable.

When it comes to working however........................it must be remembered that she is a lone dog with no experienced dog beside her to bring her on on the lamp. So, it will take time.

Regarding the refusal to come back when called then it simply a case of re-doing the homework at home in a more enclosed space..................and preferably an area where she can do some retrieves without getting past her owner.

It's never easy .......dogs do test your patience full stop !! But patience is the only way.

Ultimately IF a dog continues to upset you then you have to consider a parting of the ways...........cos the story WILL be one of........unhappy, confused dog and one unhappy owner...........not a good mix for a working or pet partnership.

Atb ....Phill.K.

My lurcher was 5 at the time took him out, near where we live got about 2 mile from home, for no reason ran for home. Was waiting for me at front door. Went across two busy roads. Always leaded on last 1/4 mile home. 12 year old now possibly best lurcher I've own, never did it again. Have no clue why he did it and never repeated, weird.
