Malt 379
Personally I'd get the ferrets first and concentrate on getting used to handling them and getting them used to being handled.. They are interesting and amusing animals to own whether you have the ground to work them on or not.. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Aye, imagine getting some decent land that wants the rabbits cleared and you have to say, well give me a few weeks or maybe a month or so . . . . . as i have to find some ferets first! You need to have some kind of clue how to do the service you are trying to offer! 3 Quote Link to post
The one 8,522
Going to be harder to get permission first and you can work away with snares a air rifle till you get ferrets or even invite somebody for a day out Quote Link to post

He wanted to get into ferreting not snaring and shooting..........so rather than spend a tenner or so on some ferts he should go and spend on a air rifle instead? Quote Link to post
fitchet 788
Going to be harder to get permission first and you can work away with snares a air rifle till you get ferrets or even invite somebody for a day out No mate not everyone is inclined to shoot rabbits with an air gun and snaring is an art in itself. You must work your ferrets all through summer aswell then if they NEED work. Quote Link to post
The one 8,522
I find it easier to get permission them if the farmer says but what , the offer is there to trap ,snare ,shoot or ferret .Than only ferret a lot of folk dont ferret during the season and with the season for ferreting getting shorter all the time you have to be a jack of all trades now Quote Link to post
Gazmapp 13
Thanks for all your help guys although mixed responses lol I have decided to get my ferrets first and get used to them before I take them out, so just the matter of building a hutch, will soon knock it up as I am a carpenter anyway. Keep an eye out for photos as I will keep u all posted, cheers again gaz Quote Link to post

You just have to adapt to the changes. Im in no way a jack of all trades and the only things i shoot with my airgun is birds and squrriels and all i trap is mink and rats. Aslong as your seen to be catching some when you ARE there and you enjoy it thats all that matters. ATB Quote Link to post
Tug 168
Get the ferrets first and handle, handle, handle. Not working them doesn't ruin them, they stay home all summer. The best working ferrets have a long list of desirable traits, but the ferreter being able to go shoulder deep in a bury without getting nailed is high up on my list. Quote Link to post
