Which to do first

Right guys and gals this may seem a stupid question but I love anything to do with field sports and I want to try my hand at ferreting, here's the question I have no ferrets neither any land to work but I am continually knocking on doors etc so what do I get first the ferrets or land? Personaly Id start looking for some ferrets. Ferreting permision isnt usualy hard to get and once you get a bit it often leads to more.

If you don't have land the only only way to work your ferrets is to poach. If you're not prepared to do that for whatever reason, don't have ferrets until you have a permission. IMO they need to be worked.

Permission first. Can get ferrets any time and will work as soon as they know whats down there. Other option go out with someone local then take them when you get land.

Chicken and egg mate. You get permission and landowners normally expect to see you out and about. Get your ferrets mate and if you dont get any land for a while im sure theres lads that will take you out ? ATB

Get your ferrets and then while your looking for land, you can spend the time socialising and spending time handling your ferrets then oncee you get your land your well prepared also gather up some nets 10-15 nets if your just starting theat way if you still struggle to find permision and you decide to take the route of poaching then your carrying light. After a few months then you can start to build your kit up..you never know you might not enjoy it atb

Ive kept ferrets for 20 years and only started working them the last few if youve got the time to look after them properly get a couple,they will earn their keep when you get permission,until then just enjoy having them ATB Dave

This is also something I wanted to know so this thread is helpful, although the mixed views not so much. I'll try for land first, ferrets are easy to come by, land not so much.

ask farmers for ferreting permision as they not to keen on shooters running about all over the place, dress tidy, although saying that i wear reebok classics and hoody's all the time lol ferrets can be keept as pets but are more at home making new friends in a warren ! plenty of ferts in ferret rescue centers up and down the country . atb bud , sam

Can't understand why a lot of you are saying get the land first,,,,,,, surly get the ferrets first and see if you actually like owning them, they may not take up as much time as dogs can ,,, but they still need handling daily , feeding, cleaning ect,,,

 

So yeh get ferrets first,,, and see if you like owning them

get the ferrets see how you get on with them your iver like em or torlerrate them. then go wandering with em and try a bit of door knocking along the way

I'd say try and get somebody to take you out first to see how things work and take it from there. (thats probably harder than getting land unless someone can vouch for you.) ask around.
