Brooksey 0
I am going to buy a .25-06 next week but am not sure if I should by an expensive moderator or will I only get the one shot because of the noise levels regardless. I have ear defenders so the safety aspect is covered; in short, does it make a massive difference to reducing the decibels or not? Quote Link to post

I have ear defenders so the safety aspect is covered; in short, does it make a massive difference to reducing the decibels or not? In short mate, why would you not? unless you are stalking exclusively on the hill, then I would say its a must, (almost) it will reduce the gigantic echoing boom, to a loud crack, reduce the muzzle flash (25-06 do have a consideable one) if your lamping, tighten your groups up, and give you the opportunity of another shot sometimes, as your quarry cant detect the direction of the shot,I would not use any of my cf rifles without one now,so yes mate I would say go for it, just remember to remove it everytime you put your rifle away, or it will destroy the crown on your rifle. Brooksey 0
Top man Charlie cheers, I use them on the .22 and hmr but was unsure as to what significance it would have. Thanks again the large calibre is not something I am familiar with so cheers. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Recoil is another benefit. The .25-06 does have considerable recoil without a moderator. With one fitted, as Charlie says, it may let you get that second shot back on target quicker, should you need it. Quote Link to post

No probs mate, you wont go wrong with a 25-06 mate tremendous calibre, and as my mate who shoots Sika says it is the calibre that kills Sika just by looking at em, the Mod I recommend is the PES/MAE t12 I have one on the .243 and it is brilliant, perhaps not the cheapest, but its all stainless and wont rot out like a t8,but please mate, remove it after shooting, and give your threads and crown a good wipe with an oily rag, and now and again put a spot of grease, (lt2 or similar) on the thread, then you will have no probs, leave it on and you will be having your rifle re crowned in 12 months. Brooksey 0
I'll take all that on board it's good advice, I'll be hitting black fallow with it just waiting for my variation to come back. I have rang the local constabulary it's all been passed and deer added so just a waiting game now, Your bang on about removing the mod, my hmr is a filthy gun far more do than the .22 I pull a snake threw that after a few rounds maybe six and always lube the threads, Thanks for the advice I'm always up for learning. Brooksey 0
I only stumbled upon the permission was doing some work on an old barn conversion saw about sixty of them just walking about and pointed them out to the owner, to which he replied get rid of them all of them they are destroying my lawns. They come down threw a lovely valley with enormous back stops all set in about ten acres perfect for shooting. As far as which gun I'm not sure my others are cz'ds an American and a varmint and I can't fault them at all in any way shape or form except one will only group eley subs and the other Winchesters but once you sort the ammo your away. Not sure about large calibers if they act the same way, was thinking maybe a weatherby with some of the higher end priced rounds, it's not expensive therefore I wouldn't be afraid to use it all yr round in awfull conditions, I wouldn't like to spend a crazy amount I'd be afraid to ruin it haha. charlie caller 3,654
Ok now you are making me drool,if ya need a hand let me know haha, I have a weatherby vanguard, cant fault it, accurate well made, and reasonably priced, you wont go wrong with one I promise you, they are the same as Howa 1500,mine is not ammo fussy either,so you should not have a problem with finding a round that shoots in it,and if you cant live with the black plastick stock I bought a lovely Boyds custom laminate stock from the states, about 120 quid inc postage, turned it into even more of a tack driver. Brooksey 0
Hahahaaa! That's what I am looking at sportsman are selling them for £563 including vat, synthetic with no scopes but screw cut so ideal for me because I have some spare 6x24x60 in the cabinet I'll slip them right on it. Must say I have read nothing but good reports on them so there's one somewhere with my name all over it, like I say I'd never pay to much for any hunting kit apart from maybe waterproofs but certainly not on rifles I like to use them not admire them. Although saying that I'm going to contradict my self because I would like a nice night vision scope maybe a gen three in time, been looking at the best of gen 1's but from what I can gather they're only good out to about 60yrd so wouldn't waste my money.
