gamerooster 1,179
saluki, collie, Greyhound, wat is d best way to x em, for watever way u do it can hav a massive affect on d type of dog u get? If I was to do it, I would put a coursing dog over a collie greyhound bitch, but I don't see why you need to add collie Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
I think I'd like a pup out of a full whippet over a coursing bred bitch. Would make cracking all rounders I think. Quote Link to post
gamerooster 1,179
Saluki Whippet Greyhound? Seen some very good dog's of this cross, especially on the smaller edible quarry Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Yeh I think it could be the one for me next time around. The collie obedience CAN be nice, ie she (my bitch) walks to heel off the lead when lamping, she sits and stays pretty much in any scenario. However from a working point of view she sometimes thinks a little bit too much. If one crops up I might put a GOOD pure whippet over her in a couple of years. Collie/Sal/Grey x Whippet. This should dilute that collie a bit. However don't wanna lose the saluki positives. Sorry for thread hijack :-) Quote Link to post

Sorry for thread hijack :-) Have a look around, and see what dog's you like before you pick one, don't go for name's, as long as it does the job then there is no reason why the pup's off it shoudlent. My old saluki dog would walk to heal down the street off the lead, if a cat run out he would blank it, never taught him to sit, but he would stay when told. Quote Link to post

I might go coursing bred Quote Link to post
Matt3699 142
See, the Dam to my bitch had a lot of Collie in her. So I was hoping ( In Theory ) to get the brain of a collie, Speed of a GH and stamina of Saluki. Obviously it doesn't work out exactly like that. My Bitch definitely has the brain of a Saluki, not that it's necessarily a bad thing... But I do wonder how she would of been without the Collie now. Obviously that is an impossible thing to speculate, but I do wonder. The last GH Collie Saluki I owned had the collie brain. Quote Link to post

Not exactly. She was incredibly smart. So smart I could of entered her into a talent contest, any command I gave her she wouldn't hesitate to do. Everything I told her to do she did it without fail. I could even make her dance... Not that it helped with the hunting She was also 100% at doing her proper job... Had her when I lived in Ireland. Lots of people offered me stupid money for her. Never would of sold her though. Quote Link to post

In all honesty mate, there is bad and good in every breed, dare I say it, even in Saluki's, and I have heard of some Collie x's being the bee's knee's, I have never seen a one work, but some men swear by them so there must be a reason!!!
