LURCHER

Only my opinion now,, so take the cross hairs off ,, so you own saluki crosses ,and the ones that dont have know brains,, yes right..

No he's saying that people who say "salukis have no brain" have not got a brain. Not people who don't own salukis.

Salukis are far far from thick!

So true mate

, I like collie crosses they are great but I prefer my saluki crosses just my preference , and when people say they don't have brains makes me laugh as they are far from thick , I've a pup here 3/4 saluki grey he's been the easiest to train out of all my dogs , and tbh I'd like a collie blooded Lurcher later on if I could pull myself away from saluki crosses :D:laugh:

how many saluki x's have you got? one? not a broad spectrum to base a wide opinion on for me...

Just out of curiosity, you come onto a Saluki x thread, how many Saluki type dogs have you had?

i have none, never seen one, worked one, owned one, or have an opinion on them. does that still mean that i cant come on the topic? didnt realise it was saluki x owners only.

if what you say about them being genuine alrounders is true would consider a saluki based lurcher in the future. like the non feathered smooths haha.

its as much the man behind them as the dog, some people have the knack for salukis, others hate them.

what are they like training/ mindset wise, any different to the "stubborness" of terriers, if what i read about stubborness etc is true.

Honestly could not tell you mate, never been into terriers, but what I find works best with Salukis is little and often, they are never going to be agility or obedience champions, but simple tasks of sit, lie, stay .etc are possible, which if its a working dog, you don't need much more, all the Saluki x's I have had have been brilliant jumper's, my old dog jumped 6 foot 3 for a bet, But I must say, the only thing I could fault him in was he was pure and utter shite on rabbits, but not all of them are  but trust me, there not slow, and there certainly not brain dead

I think this is a good cross, For a bit of everything the ones iv saw where decent dogs, Wind,Brain,Feet, And just them types that were natural hunters plenty of running brain about them...

And the Saluki thing yes we've all seen them types that dont listen, Point and slip types on the fen that dont come back and you have too run after them praying they catch cause its the only way you can get um back on a lead.. BUT thats down too the owners i wouldnt own a dog now that never had a splash of Sal in it, People just think they bring wind into the mix when they bring a hell of a lot more than that...

Get what suits you and the quarry you run,

Every Saluki X GH X collie I have seen were cracking dogs. Great allrounders. But it's down to the breeding and the handler at the end of the day. The bitch I have at the moment is a Saluki Collie Greyhound, Took me 5 months of searching to find the specific cross I was after.., still young but I'm confident she will make a good'n. My last one was a real good all rounder.

Are you thinking of getting one?
