First net done!

Recommended Posts

If I make a long net with out sheet netting as in knitting one myself,I wait till spring and make it over the summer period gives me something to look forward to when the season starts, nice and steady away I can do a few lines while her who must be obeyed watches emerdale or some crap,

sounds like a good idea to me, might give that a go come summer, hopefully get out and do some longnetting first with a couple of mates of mine that use them, aha funnily enough thats when i found time to make my net!

I get a funny feeling you will get hooked, dont know for sure but we will see, when you walk across the field and you can hear them squealing in the net, its better than christmas I can tell you, more so when its your own net just like ferreting, but even to make a 30 yd net for around the small set's when ferreting, its hard to describe for me I love it,even when you experiment and screw it up it dont matter its a hobby in its own right,

i'm pretty sure im now hooked, every moment spare i seem to be wondering off upstairs to carry on with a net aha, really looking forward to some long netting, i think i would start off small, just a 25 or 30 yd one like you say.

just remeber that will still be 50 or 60 yards of netting with the bagging

First attempt at making a purse net was a success!! Few hiccoughs along the way, ended up having to undo almost an entire row, but in the end worked out really well! Twine, mesh board, rings, needles,

Bob youre doing it all wrong,,when you drop a bollock you should throw a hissy fit and then chuck the lot into the fire.........like I do then the wife and kids all laugh at me day to day Im a reall

Mate, I went through nearly a full spool when I learnt. To do 14 rows then get a slip... Then there was the blistered hands. I couldnt put it down though, quite addictive once you get going.

Mate, its much easier than a purse net, theres no adding or deducting meshes, and you only ever doing 14 or 15 meshes. You seem to grow rows really fast, but its a bit monotonous.

I`m doing mine two tone, changing colour every 10yds, to help keep track of how far Ive done and it will make setting the bagging easier and more accurate, working on 5yd pegs.

Ive also read that a two tone net can trick rabbits back into the net, as where it changes colour, the rabbit thinks the net has ended?.

i always made them in square mesh as it seems to work better than diamond mesh when it comes to long nets

I dont know how to tie square mesh yet. Im sure I read on here, that when you add a selvedge, it off sets the net slightly, for the better?
