We hunt rabbits hares foxes and feral pigs with the same dogs we blend the breeds to let us do that theres 4 in my yard that do the job. As was said different strokes for different folks.

they cross them over bullmastiff in aussie land to use on pigs, but bar that I have not heard of them being worked, no offence to you aussie lads, but some of the breeds I have seen in your lurchers, is lets say............different!!!

But there dogs work for them although different styles of hunting to here

No doubt about it, but I just wonder why so many different breeds, when a couple in a cross would do just aswell???

That's not what they were bred to do when ye breed originated! Dog for a job and as a breed it doesn't have one anymore not over here anyway

I dont think theres hardly any original wolfhound blood in wolfhounds these days... I recollect reading an article by colonel david handcock that mentioned in passing that wolfhounds are a recreated breed using some deerhound and great dane blood

as been said they use them in Oz , but unless there differnt to the i/w in the rest of the world, lol they would be waste of time to use for a hunting dog. I reckon, what they use in Oz are (not) pure i/w and have deerhound in there make up, they prob more like stags that are in the USA .

The real reason people had pure wolfhounds over here was for chasing kangaroos when it was legal, kangaroos aren't really agile at all so an agile dog isn't needed, but the stronger the dog the handier. Just going off what I've read...
