Ferret Locator Collar Care?

Recommended Posts

Obviously through the use of the knocker box and collar combo means wear and tear... and also the leather collar gets wet and mucky.

Now obviously when i get back i clean it in warm water to remove the mud etc but then let it dry out naturally. i don't force it on the radiator.

This cycle obviously means the leather becomes coarse and the inner face of the collar becomes (over time) brittle.

i have used saddle soap on the outer but not sure about using it on the inner...?

I know you obviously use boot polish to protect your leather boots against damp ingress etc.

but your boots don't get wet on the outside and inside... so is there anything I can use on the outer & inner face of the collar to protect it and try to promote its life span without it causing any discomfort or irritation to the ferret...?

What do you guys use... and how often do you apply it...?

Thanks in advance for helpfull responses.

I replaced all of the leather collars with nylon, because it also meant it was easier to pin a few extra holes in.

I got a hammer and nail punched extra holes in the collars where i needed them marked the collars with a permanent pen and find its easy to pick a collar up pop it on the right ferret and im good to go in about five minutes instead of pissing about for ages like before

I've got different coloured collars, no need for pen :) It also means that I can tell the difference between which of my ferrets pop up to the surface when I've got more than one under ;)
