Hare dogs (Pre ban)

So Pre ban when we could go out and run hares

 

How big did pure hare dogs tend to be? is there an ideal height you would have gone for?

 

I'm not talking ones that took one here and there I meen dogs that when you slipped them week in week out you were coming back with good numbers!

 

What would be the smallest that you think a dog could be, And come back with good numbers?

There's been plenty good small ones,, I remember just a few week befor the ban came in being on a big day on the fen by invite, and Clive had a good little black dog about 22 inch,, that had 5 that day if I remember right...

 

But I have seen a good few others that weren't much bigger 23 inch mark

when coursing whippets under rules. what was the slipping distance 35 yds?

i think they aimed at 50yard slips,,,and pure whips didnt catch much with

 

also some pure whip ,,,not ALL,,,wouldnt live with a hare if hare decided enough is enough and took off,,,,some pure,s aint that fast,,,again not ALL ,,u get good and bad in every breed sort off speak

 

I've been out with pure whippets and have one myself so I have to dis agree, they do catch and catch well. Ok your not going to get a course like a saluki x but they stick tight and normally do them on the turn but it fast and over quick. If the hare does get a head 9 times out of 10 it get away, but talking about small fields with hedge not fens. I've never hunted fens so I don't know but for me a good whippet with good fitness will catch hares regular . I may be biased as well

must be very small feild i agree with ya on that 1 but wat if you seen 6 or 7 hairs in feild [bANNED TEXT] ya gna do coz i dont fink wippet will run 6 one after another but i do agree wid you be better 4 daytime a wippet if they can settle into a course

iam no being funny,,,,ive seen a whip/grey not many ,,,,take a hare with 200yd law,,,very few and between

 

ive also seen whip/ grey take a hare and after another 2mins later and there pretty fu@ked

 

but ive never seen a pure whippet with decent ,,slip take a hare easy

 

small feilds and not fens ,,,,,lol sorry i had to giggle lol,,,,there,s pleanty big feilds around the country barr the bloody fens

If I had a Whippet, I'd take you up on that, just for the craic !! Me, you and an independant slipper, one slip, if the Whippet kills you give me £500, if it didn't, I give you £50 !! I'd wager the 50 just for the craic !! LOL !!
