do you lads think you can take a show type ebt and keep it in lean condition or is it not to be done ??????

 

In my opinion ANY dog can be put into lean healthy day to day condition.......but i dont think you could get a showbred ebt into peak condition the way you would put a bulldog through a keep.....i just dont think they have the physical or mental ability ......a dog bred with the aim of prancing round a showring will have had athletic physical qualities sacrificed for " a look "......not just a silly shaped head and dense bones etc......but also the things you cant see with the eye elastcity/flexibility of joints/ligaments,tendon strength etc etc......right down to inherent lung power.....the dogs just wont be natural born athletes if bred through the generations for the showring.........plus the longer you breed for show the mental toughness and determination a performance bred dog inherits is gradually lost meaning not only does he not have the tools to be peaked he doesnt have the desire either.......im sure you could get one in shape thats easy on the eye and a lean fit look....but not in ( for want of a better phrase ) true " match shape "

The bitch i had was purely pet /show bred and as much as i want to agree with you i can tell you thats simply not true all of the time. i cant prove it too you but 100% i will hand on heart say 'good dogs are were you find em!'

 

I totally agree good dogs are where you find them.....but getting the absolute best from a good dog sometimes just isnt possible.......documented evidence indicates that ebt,s have simply never made the grade in the highest levels of conditioned performance in competition......thats proof enough for me

J dog those pink growths look like something my ex's mini EBT used to have if they are the same and grow big you can tie horsehair around the base tight and they drop off but the hair doesn't grow back

 

ps don't right ya lad off as old yet, Mini lived until just shy of 17 years was blind and deaf yet was still fookin rats up a few months before she died

I look at it like this, you get on a plane and sitting across from you are two Arab looking gents nervous and sweating. Whats the first thought that comes to mind? So when I read this thread "English Bull Terriers" on a working terrier forum because I'm pretty sure that's what its says up top, I'm very interested. But instead I read, vet tec ,conformation this, confirmation nightmare, pitbulls, pattedales, looking for a greyhound to start a lurrcher line, reciting peds back and forth , honest bull dogs that looked like they came from a pet shop,no pics then canned hunting pics I'm sorry but the first thing that comes to my mind is, no kids, wears pants with elastic waist bands and sneakers that Velcro and 24-40lbs overweight. I'm sorry but that's just what happens . I've been in terriers for a long time here in the states In that time I can count on one hand the times I've hunted with women that where 1/2 serious about hunting terriers/dogs ,most were like the description above and there dogs some of them really good were their replacement kids for lack of none or they got older moved out. Now read the next part twice so you get it-I'm not saying this is YOU, its just YOUR first impression you made. Don't get me wrong the men here aren't much better.... most of them don't even own locator systems for there terriers. Now some are going to take this as I'm racist or male chauvinist, I'm not Uphill Doc is. I was just seeing red flags popping up and asked you a few questions to find out whats,what that's all. This by far was one of the most entertaining off topic posts in this thread. First of all, yes, I am a woman, and I am VERY serious about my dogs. I am a family woman, I do have kids as a matter of fact! And all of them are under 18, lol. 8-O I'm actually in my 30's. Hate drawstring pants......blue jeans and camo here, every day LOL. a lot of the bulls i´ve seen have a very narrow lower jaw, so narrow that the bottom canines are on the inside of the upper teeth. My own mini bull have a straighter profile than most and a better bite/wider jaw. Do any of you find that a straighter profile gives a better bite/better jaw or is it coincidental?
