please dont take offence to this as im sure your dogs mean the world to you :D

have you had her back cheeked some times a dog can be in pain with out any visable signs and i am sure you realise that although tough our lurchers etc turn very tight turns at incredable speed it is so eays to pull mussles and put things out ask any human who has been to a chiropractor (spelling) and they will tell you the diffrence it made to places they didnt know they had a problem im saying this because it sounds like another dominance thing except the crabbiness to things she brushes up against which to me say pain if i was you i would get her checked out at least then if there is nothing wrong then you know for sure that its dominance and can deal with it and if it is pain youll be glad you got it cheeked :D

in that case give her somewhere the kids dont go for peace and quiet and every time she dose it ignore her and remove her from the room silently any voice good or bad is attention and it will incourage more of the same excluding her from the pack is what the alpha dog will do in the wild :D

i only have working dogs so a house dog is different but if one of my dogs showed teeth or snaped/bit me it would be serverly punished and if it happened again would be pts, a dog which i place in my family house hold would be put to sleep that day theres no room for errors with your child or wife, at the end of the day human flesh is sacred to a dog and once it forgets that its to late, remember its just a dog and not your child, lurchers can do alot of damage very quickly due to the speed and amount they bite, so think if its warning people now what will happen if they push her a bit more, this is just my opinion hope it helps

as i said if its dominance deal with it it can be stoped the dog just has to know its place. dogs dont hang onto the past the way we do they just live for the moment so most dogs except those that have sufferd can be retrained easily.

again this is not ment to offend but more often than not its the family that have to change the way they treat the dog to make it aware that its not top dog as humans we like to think of them as our friends but at the endof the day they are pack animmals

if you want to understand how your dogs mind works and therfore how your actions affect it read

DOGWATCHING BY DESMOND MORRIS AND THE TRUTH ABOUT DOGS BY STEPHEN BUDIANSKY

these books are not based on hunting dogs but on the dog in genral and as wolves hunters in there truest form i have never looked at my dogs in the same way after reading these books and after studding them myself for 8 years have found that by changing thw way i think and to see things as the dog sees them i have had fantastic results

hope this is of some help

now that im typing this i cant rember where you are but if you would like my help in this matter i am willing to give it having a dog put down because its confused about where it is in the pack is a last resort but i agree you have to do something before its to late

It's behavioral, don't allow the bitch to display this behavior if you don't want it. I would repremand the bitch as soon as she showed that kind of behaviour, if it was my own dog.

It can be serious if the dog gets snappy in the wrong situation.

Its not a bitch thing, its the dog being allowed to get away with it ;)

Think dog, not humans.

i can asure you of this if this dog or any other bit or attacked any of ma kids or anybody else i come down on it like a ton of bricks unless the dog was getting provoked ,as much as i love ma lurchers people have to come first .

kids pervoke dogs it what they do tug their ears pull their tails its no excuse, i herd a story of a dog biting a child after being put down they found a broken half of a pencil in its ear cannal i would expect my dogs to run and cower than turn on my child and if i didnt think that then they would never be put in that situation, dogs are animals with primal instinks once you take away the survival instink the worry of surviveing day to day, will they eat today, they have more to think about and can have dominace issues , just remember there are many good dogs out there so why keep a problem one

This dog is not what i would call a problem dog it loves kids ,now the dog growls when its lying down or been sleeping but i have my self sat next to it when this has happend and it backs down and looks for somwhere else to go,sorry if the first post makes this dog out to be a bad behaved dog this dog has learned so much in such a short time she is joy but my last bitch done this and would never ever ever have bit or attacked kids

now the thread was just out of intrest few members that know this dog could vouch that shes good dog and getting better all the time, people are intitled to there opinion but as far as any animal that gets hurt surely it has the right to defend its self i know some folk might see this difrently and thats fine.

ferret15 i have red the book by THE TRUTH ABOUT DOGS BY STEPHEN BUDIANSKY

and it was not bad.cheers elma
