Decent ground to get my young Whippet a kill or 2. Would share my GC shooting perm.

Recommended Posts

As above all. I'm looking for someone who has a decent bit of open ground to give my young Whippet a run out and hopefully a kill or 2. I have a couple of golf course permissions that i shoot on and would gladly return the favour.

He's 17 month old and he's a promising young dog. He hunts well when out, has a good wee nose on him and works the cover no problem. I've also had him on 1 of the GC's with the lamp and he's done really well there also. He hasn't had a kill yet on the lamp but he's really keen, looks down the lamp and comes straight back to my feet on call or when the rabbit goes out of the lamp. Anything at all would be great whether it's lamping, bolting or just general mooching.

I have ferrets and all the kit and would buy lunch and a pint

I'm in the west of Scotland and would be willing to travel...within reason and for the right ground.

Many thanks

I have been running him on the lamp on the GC. He's had some really good chases but they seem to hit the cover or go over a hill and out of the lamp very quickly...and the rabbits seem to run like fcuk on the manicured grass. Although he hasn't had a kill on the lamp, it has turned out well as he has taken to the lamping very well and has been a good training ground for him. He come straight back on call and looks down the beam as soon as it goes on. The GC's i have are more suited to shooting to be honest.

i have GC permission and have to agree the rabbits are like shiit off a shovel. cover is usually close by and they know exactly where they are heading.

still provides some good sport for us though. and if thats all you have then thats what you have to use.

im in the process of getting some more permo and if you want a night out mine or your land we can sort that out.

ill be starting the pup soon on my GC permo because its a good enviroment should she decide to play up.

Ive often heard lads saying that a rabbit is a rabbit and they are not faster on golf courses. THEY MOST DEFINITIELY ARE!

I have got permission on a couple of golf courses and the rabbits are like theyve got a rocket strapped to there back.

Good fun but not for bringing a pup on IMO.

All the best.

now thats the way it should be done all the best to you both with your young dogs  john

Cheers mate. You're right...it's nice to be nice. Most people that have their own ground seem to want to keep it to themselves which is understandable as decent ground is really hard to come by. I'm not looking to hammer someone elses ground...just give the wee dog a good run a hopefully a couple of kills. Judging by what i've seen of him when out, i have no doubt that in decent open ground he'll nail them no problem. He loves the cover...charging in if there's a scent and finds them no probs. I've done some ferreting with him and he loves it. When he hears the thumping he's on his toes anticipating a bolt and pins them in the net. There's no definite signs of him marking yet though a few times he's sat there and won't move when i walk away.

They're definitely faster mate. He had a 200 yard run at 1 1 night and this thing was fcuking shifting. He gained on it and was almost on top of it until it went over a small hill and out of the lamp. I was gutted for the wee dog. On rougher ground he would've nailed it

They are like exocets on my wee golf course permission.....soon as a lamp touches them they go like blazes....think its the amount of pressure they get on golf courses that does it....

My bitch gets a few, she had about 8 last season off 5 trips to the golf courses. Maybe slip her 5/6 times each visit and she gets 1/2 of them.

Not fantastic but I'm yet to see a dog do much better on a golf course though. Maybe a good whippet would?

That sounds like good going to me mate. I'm no expert mate but i'd say that if your wee dog can catch like that on GC's then he'll catch anywhere. On my GC permission they sit just off the cover. On a few occasions he's had some good wee runs and turns but they can hit the cover at any time...usually as he's about to nail it!

Your lucky to get a turn on a GC rabbit.

too true. them ones on saturday night were motoring away. with a lurcher and a whippet on its arse it knew exactlt where it was going, no turns, just straight across the green and out of sight!

Hi guys I and 2 mates are looking for some permission for some rabbit hunting in cornwall but can’t find where to ask. I and my mates are all greatly skilled with air rifles from just sitting in the back of our gardens with targets roughly 50-100yards and want to move onto small game so if anyone knows of anyone in cornwall that would give us permission please let me know.

Hi, we're having a sudden rat infestation on our small holding in North Cotswolds. Wondering if there are any people around with ratting dogs who want a bit of work?
