reloading cost .243 and speed/bullet weight - powder weight

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am aiming to get a .243 hopefully because like the .22lr it's a great all-rounder. As an outline I will be using it for fox and deer. I am very sure that my land is safe for .243 but i fear there are few deer on it. Most deer shooing will be on other sites. some helpful members have given some helpful tips in helping me to overcome this. So for now the .243 is my aim.

Being such a versatile round I am interested to learn of peoples experiences with regard to reloading cost and bullet velocity/bullet weight combinations and if they found accuracy benefits aside from the cost. I understand that some people prefer sticking with one weight bullet fits all which is great and of course sensible and their preference. However I will be using different weights for different tasks as this is my preference.

so what I am really interested to know is maintaining practical shooting and good accuracy ...

what are people finding the cost is for reloading 'around' 50 grain .243 (per bang)? and what fps are they getting with how much grain of powder/type powder?

AND

what are people finding the cost is for reloading heavier 'around' 100 grain.243 bullets? And what fps are they getting with how much grain of powder/type powder?

or any weight inbetween for that matter.

and twist rate of your setup

Regards

i use either a 87grain v max pushing out 3100 fps, accuracy is in the .22's when i do my part at 100 yards,

An i use 95g sst for deer, and its putting out 2900 fps, this is a semi custom rifle with a 1 in 9 twist, but i did shoot the 95's with a standard 1 in 10 twist shooting into 1/2 inch.

i have used a .243 for years, and when building the rifle i now own i decided to keep the calibre, because of its selection of heads and powders that you are able to use with

it,

i always use a specific fox round and deer round, its not hard to zero two at the range, keep the zero you are going to use the most, and write down

corrections for second zero, and its just a matter of dialing that adjustment in and rezero turrets, then reverse when going back to fox round for example,

atb,

Snap.

thanks for your response.

would you ever go back to a .223 or 22-250 (asuming you have not got these cals as well /as some people prefer to use one cal more than others)?

thanks for the chat mate.

just land checked it and its already cleared for .223.

but firearms could not say if that was the highest cal passed off or just the cal previously applied for!! because in there wisdom they don't note that on the police system.

so to find out I am forced to put in a variation and they will probably have to send out plod again if i apply for a higher cal than .233!!! as they have a new feo for that area.

if plod had just stated the checking criteria it would make their life much easier and i would know what best to put in for!

my confidence in the police keeps sinking as the years go on.

it seems when you need them i.e. in my case business stock stollen in the past, they are only interested in easy work or almost useless.
