stewie 3,387
got to agree way b.h i've had 10 month old pups take sika stags single handed. and would say that's all there about good for is schooling young dogs. at ten months............ seriously??? ive never even seen a sika never mind ran one lol but i always thought that if that stag can mate a red hind, then it might take a bit more than a ten month old lurcher pup to drop him??? im just showing mine a few rabbits by then, so can a dog really do a sika stag single handed untill you arrive on the scene at ten month old??? genuine question.........and if you got dogs that were able to, good on ya........... Personally I wouldn't doubt that a good, game ten month old could stop a sika stag......not that I would do it myself as, for my own dogs, I believe its far too early, but, yes, I wouldn't doubt it. they're the easiest of deer IMO. kranky 507
So Sika are easier than CWD? Speed wise or fight wise? Quote Link to post
FUJI 17,288
Right guys now I've read a bit on here about daytime and nighttime,I know at dark it wasn't legal but saying they would of been easier im not so sure? In the day the dog can easily see whereto grab hold at night that wouldn't always the case? If a big Fallow or Red were even hindered by a ditch, hedge, woodland etc I personally think a dog would have to have some balls to get stuck in with little way of illumination? I know it's just all "ifs and buts" lol but I often wonder sitting reading some of the topics on here if people spent a little more time out experiencing lurcherwork they may see things a little differently? Anyhow I am no wealth of knowledge on deer but just my thoughts folks...ATB Andy 1 Quote Link to post
kranky 507
Dogs see a lot better at night than we do, they have no problem getting stuck in when it's dark. 1 Quote Link to post

beast 1,884
So Sika are easier than CWD? Speed wise or fight wise? Anyone know the answer? i've never run sika with dogs but used to handle a lot when i worked with park deer and they will fight for sure, even the does will try to bite you once you get them caught up! i ran a lot of CWD with dogs and i never saw one that had any kind of fight in it, used to squeak and wriggle a bit, but most of them just lay down and waited to die. so i guess folks who say that sika are easiest are talking speedwise, because some of those CWD run like they've got a rocket up their arse Quote Link to post
