As I heard you didnt have too much luck here in ireland wit yourDEER OR VENISON DOGS

Nope...I had a bad time of it...but i went and I did it but I got my arse spanked when the dog i had (R.I.P) jacked.

But...you know, at least I'm honest about the dog being not good enough and, best of all, at least i went out and ran my dog on the two largest species in the daytime on the open ground. I tried. i failed. that's about the truth of the matter. No big secret, i've wrote about it before. It was the adventure...that what it;'s all about....the adventure is everything......but, that's only one man's opinion....

hunting edible ta me under the beam or day, makes not abit a difference , i aint out for sport long ears preban fallow preban all for the dealer or the freezer . THERE is lots a difference under the beam same as day time of yr etc etc . but all this ca bumfle is for the sportsman , preban illegal activities went on good luck to those who walked the walk ,under the beam dropping several fallow per night single takes a different sort than the usually more fleet type day dog . wear and tear on the faster types will and does take its toll when ya bang at it 2 ta 3 nights and more when the weather the conditions are right when a hunting all measures may be used to account for numbers what eva thy game .if its sport one quires ones best with a grey , and do the races .atb bunnys.

Well,it was a dog that lost all its teeth, but the red is a fair animal for one on one....so thats just how it goes. The dog i had jacked, he won't jack ever again though. .. What I will say is, back in the day (pre ban) i had a 100% slip to catch rate with my old dog....over a couple of visits...so they ain't all been shit...

I don't mind failing,in fact, it makes for a better hunt, but i do like to try at least.... obviously, this is all in the past, way, way, in the past...

had the best times of my life on the heather-covered hills,,,,,,proper hunting IMO

Ye also heard yous had decent dogs over. One on one wit a red now I would like to see that. There is serious power in them any dog takes one single is some dog even if it only does it once. Anyway all the best pal. Glad ye had few decent trips over.

Here's the thing.....deer can't (couldn't) be judged under the beam of artificial light in order to really judge them they need to be run during the daytime over a period of time....a daytime deer is a totally different animal to a lamped deer....

Just how many lads are keen enough to travel and test their dogs on the daytime stuff? well, that's the thing.

Daytime, one on one, then you get a 'feel' for the whole thing.....i've heard lots of lads boasting that their dog has stopped a couple of roe or a few chinks under the beam, but when daytime comes they don't seem to want to know.... you can't boast about lamped deer... :boogy: You run ten fallow in the daytime and you'll know if you've got a 'fallow' dog or not..... :victory: JMO...JD

I dont by into this ...its like saying unless youve caught a fallow buck in the rut you havent a fallow dog ?????????? and its not the case ......ive caught every deer apart from CWD and Sika in day single handed apart from the Reds but ive known dogs never run them in day and caught say over 3/4 seasons 600 deer at night id still call this a deer dog of the highest order !!....deer like hares are harder in day but like night they still run into fences ,still do crazy things ,id go as far as saying a night dog has more respect from me as going out 3/4 times a week ,week after week ,season after season knocking deer after deer over ,its easy at start of season ,then the rut ,then after xmas when everything steps up a gear ,........................... you go out in the Fallow rut 3 nights of week and just run Bucks with same dog and catch sometimes 3 bucks in a night (not allways single handed il give you) and tell me thats not a Fallow dog at end of it ....

P.S you cant tell me now as its against the law im talking about in the day/night when you could

What were you trying to prove running a red stag with 1 dog? Was it just done to fill pages? Or was it to boast your dog could do it? Total disrespect for your hunting companion and quarry. I'm glad to hear your dog failing makes for a better hunt for you. You must have loved it losing its teeth. Ahhhh the adventure of it all......it's a funny old game this hunting, folk contradicting themselves depending on quarry..... People boasting of traveling all over for deer feel superior to others who don't. And yet, if the quarry is the humble hare....... You can spend your life on the fens and become a coursing god........ go figure.
